boss of the plains

today i have two sets of photos to share that have been giving me ample inspiration to try a new style of hat. i must preface this by telling you that i really don’t know much about hats except that they go on top of your head and that sometimes they look cool. so i did a bit of research after putting together these two little galleries for you, and discovered that there are many different kinds of hats being represented here. we’ve got a cowboy hat, a homburg, several fedoras, possibly a cordobés, maybe a trilby, and some other hats that i can’t even identify, which i will deem “fashion hats.”

i also discovered that there is a hat style called the boss of the plains, which is the predecessor to the cowboy hat. sweet name if you ask me. though i suppose the name of the style doesn’t matter, and the most important thing is that it looks good. these all look great, so what i’m saying is that i’m pro hats. of all kinds. and right now, i’m especially appreciating hats that would traditionally be considered men’s hats. definitely keeping my eye out at the thrift shops!

  1. Boss of the plains? Awesome! I love this post. Just a note – that's Katharine Hepburn, not Ingrid Bergman.

  2. I LOVE HATS!!! I'm going to do a photo shoot with all my hats! I don't own too many hats. I really want to expand my hat collection.

So I spoke to JT of THE SF STYLE and Diana of Darling Darling and asked them if I could feature them on my blog. I'm going to film them and edit a nice video. I was wondering if you'd be interested too? The shoot will occur sometime next month, when my schedule is less hectic. If you're interested, feel free to respond to me on my blog or email me at limckh@googlemai.com

Hope to hear from you :)d

  3. that sart picture on the bottom left looks sooo much like one of my eng professors! it makes me happy. boss of the plains hat reminds me of kansas!

  4. Love hats. I just got a very wide brim hat I have to figure out.
P.S. A reader told me about the Photodiarist shot–I never would have found it on my own!

  5. hats are so important but I have a questions for you and girls like Kennedy. How do you feel about wearing hats at uni? I am quite self conscious because the majority student body wears sneakers and american eagle sweatshirts.

To those curious about hats: Flea Markets and vintage consignment shops. Otherwise it takes some good digging.

  6. i found a hat like this in a vintage store on mission a couple of years ago, and didn't get it because it was in poor condition. i still regret not buying it; that 'poor' condition it was in had all the perfect wrinkles, and i actually like how it looked on me.

all i can do now is to keep my eye out for another…

  7. ohhh i want a good hat so badly, but i find them so hard to pull off with such short hair. i usually just end up looking like a little boy, and not in that cute tomboy kinda way either…
