shorts story

this year, i’ve been completely obsessed with finding the perfect pair of shorts. and not just one pair, i kinda want like several pairs of incredible high rise shorts in different fabrics with different cool little embellishments like paper bag waist ties and pleats, but most importantly: scallops! hard to believe, right? ha, you know me. and i know this is old news since these perfect shorts were seen walking down the chloe spring 2009 runway over a year ago, but ever since i laid my eyes on that collection, i have not been able to get scalloped edges out of my mind! but as with most runway trends, i knew it would only be a matter of time before we saw all sorts of imitations, knock offs, and homages. not that chloe is, like, the owner of scalloped edges or anything (i have been collecting a number of vintage pieces with scalloped edges), but you know what i mean. i just don’t happen to be able to afford chloe.

unfortunately, for whatever reason, when it comes to obtaining a pair of these amazing shorts, it’s been my personal shopping fail. i saw them pop up at urban outfitters in black for under $50 and i hesitated until they were out of stock in my size. and neneee has been whipping up some custom pairs refashioned from vintage shorts, yet i have yet to snag a pair of those either. and well, i’ve seen others and still don’t have a pair. so i guess i’ll just keep on sitting here, waiting patiently for the universe to drop them on top of my head. or rear, i suppose.

  1. "incredible high rise shorts in different fabrics with different cool little embellishments like paper bag waist ties and pleats, but most importantly: scallops!" – You took the words right out of my mouth. I've been hesitant to purchase them also though and I have no idea why. Ok no thats a lie. I feel like I can't pass these off as work clothes, but not everything in my wardrobe needs to be for work. Bah Humm Buggggg.

  2. I'm also obsessed with scallopped shorts! I think I might do an etsy search on it every week…I also love the scallopped shorts by Alexandra Grecco but for some reason I've stopped myself each time from buying a pair.

I hope you get yourself a pair!!

  3. ahhh, those pink ones are adorable, and the blue with the polka dots… who am i kidding, they're all cute!

  4. I'm drooooling. Lately I've had the urge to cut off all my high-waist trousers into shorts. I've already done it with a couple pairs and need to control myself, so I'm not cursing when the weather cools down again!

  5. Absolutely wonderful! ;-)

Can I ask you which layout you´re using on your blog, since you have both a left and right coloumn…?

  6. For some reason shorts make me self-conscious. I'm not overweight or anything, but I just can't wear them without thinking something might be peeking out.

  7. I've been drooling over scallop-hemmed shorts too–they're just too cute! My inspiration folder has been filling up with images of them, which means I'm pretty muc obsessed at this point! I've been trying to decide if I just need to break down and make a pair or not. ;) rofl.

Good luck finding the perfect pair for yourself! :)

  8. I am with you and love all of these! Those ones from neneee are amazing and gone! I need a great pair but the see by chloe are too much!

  9. OH MAN. chloe sevigny always has the best shorts (and legs – meowww!). i'm with you on the shorts quest – i find that thrift store mom-pants (big, baggy, tapered pants) make really good shorts when cut off and rolled up. or if you were a more accomplished sewer you could hem some lovely scallops as well…

  10. high rise shorts are just plain classy. and lately it seems like there's so many ways to wear them. all of a sudden i too, have been feeling the urge to wear shorts, which is quite a change for a dress and skirt grrl.

scallops on shorts are perfect for you. can hardly wait to see the pics!

    The pink ones are amazing!!
In my mind the best sorts are from weary old extra fragile
lace worn over silk tights and with a long jacket on top
If you wanna come for a cup of tea and some daydreaming I will be very happy!
