today i went on another little stroll around the neighborhood and managed to get a few more shots of where i live. it’s easy to think of oakland as a huge metropolis (and it is the eight largest city in california), but it’s also very spread out. there’s a diverse selection of terrains, from the flatlands stretching out to the bay, to the hills in the north and east, to a giant saltwater estuary alongside the skyscrapers and lofts downtown. on the whole, the city is mostly flat, but i happen to live in the lower hills on one edge of town, which are quite picturesque if you ask me.

so today we kinda rolled out of bed and sauntered our way over to piedmont ave. for a simple breakfast of eggs and toast at a little coffee shop. it was a nice way to spend a sunday morning, especially after such a gray and gloomy week! on occasions like this, i tend to wear pretty simple outfits without much thought or planning coz, well, it’s the weekend, dude!

  1. very cute… I love this classic look but on you it has a little bit of an edge to it which I like? Have you seen the new Coach bag designed by Karla from Karla's closet? She has her own bag now along with the girl from Cupcakes and Cashmere and a couple of other bloggers…

Check it out… It reminded me of this because Coach bags are usually conservative but Karla's has an edge …
Love your blog! You have such a great sense of style!

  2. I recently discovered your blog and I love it! I've included you in my Top 10 faves and am featuring you in a post tomorrow:)

  3. sooo cute!
my dad is a huge oakland raiders fan (despite having no formal ties to CA) .. so that's the only knowledge i have of oakland really.

  4. piedmont ave is amazing.
i myself live on Orange street which is up the mini hill from the Whole Foods near Lake Merritt.

my favorite places on Piedmont Ave are The Posh Bagel, the comic shop (forgot the name :/), Fentons and SURPRISE!

there are so many quaint shops on that street I love walking up and down it often

  5. I was recently in Oakland for a conference, and it was great! I never realized what a cool city it was! I'd like to get to see more of it one of these days.

I love huaraches. They're the perfect summer shoe. :D

  6. what a perfect summer outfit!! I'm so ready to put my tights away! I think the simpler an outfit, the better! :)

  7. hello,

i never comment – on any blogs really, i'm just an admiring skimmer – but have to today, to say thanks for two things:

    1) adore your aesthetic, seriously adore.

    2) the scenery in this post is giving me the sweetest nostalgia for my old temescal/rockridge/piedmont haunts, the bougainvillea and stucco houses, pizzaiolo, and the amazing cemetery up the hill…

    so yeah, just thanks!

  8. aww erin! i love this outfit! it makes me think of the outfits that you first started out with–simple and so casual and not quite so vintage. i love it! i'm so glad you remembered to bring your camera out today because these photos are so lovely!
