weekend wear

calivintage: weekend wear

this is what i wore on a sunday trip to the alameda flea market. it was a particularly exciting trip because the last two months, it has been far too rainy to even think about going. and i think all of the bay area got the memo, because i have never seen it more crowded! apparently, it was the thing to do this weekend. we stayed for a few hours rummaging through antiques and vintage clothes, and i safely got away with a few dachshund brooches and a really beautiful mint green mohair sweater! i’m actually glad that i was able to exercise such restraint because our poor little apartment is already so cluttered!

as far as my look, i kept things pretty simple: the equivalent of jeans and a t-shirt. just replace the jeans with an easy a-line skirt and wear low heels instead of, say, sneakers. and of course, i’ve been wearing this new j.w. hulme bag with almost every outfit lately. what i love so much about it, is that not only is it a really classic look, but it’s made of thick, sturdy leather from a heritage brand that’s been around since the early 1900s. and what’s more, they are still hand made in the usa. it’s the type of purse that i hope to own for years to come, adding character with every scuff and scrape.

  1. I’ve been debating buying these sandals from Madewell for months. Are they comfortable? Should I take the plunge and order myself a pair?
P.S. I’m loving the color combo in this post!

    1. they are surprisingly comfortable, actually! though i will admit that after around 4 hours walking around the flea market on sunday, i was happy to take them off. but you could probably expect that from any heel, since it was the pressure on the ball of my foot that started to bug me. but still, no blisters or discomfort or anything. and i quite like them!

      1. Erin, thanks so much for your response! I think I’m going to splurge and treat myself to a pair. I always wait until July to order sandals and then all the good ones are sold out in my size. This year, I promised myself that I would start thinking about spring/summer footwear BEFORE iit hits 80 degrees.

  2. That purse is adorable! I’ve been looking for a similar bag for years, but I yet have to find a vintage trove!
I love your outfit! Simple, but still cute and comfy enough for sunny adventures. And I do long for such blue skies….

  3. O man got to love the Alameda Flea Market. I haven’t been since I was little, but definitely feel like going back since the weather has been so lovely recently.

  4. Such a great casual outfit. I’m obsessing over that length of skirt right now, I have one a tad longer but want to wear it everywhere! x.x.x

  6. i love this casual look. i hate wearing jeans so a comfy skirt is my go to outfit as well.
beautiful pictures as always..the blue sky is amazing.
i especially enjoy looking at them today bc it has been storming here in wv ALL day.

  7. I love your vintage skirt. It’s such a gorgeous shade of blue color pairs so well with the brown tee, which is also a terrific shade of brown. i think j. crew has some of the nicest, quality made, and moderately affordable tees.
