calivintage: extra casual

it’s been a pants kind of week here at calivintage. i think this has to do with the fact that the weather has been just a bit more chilly than the sunny skies would suggest. so i opted for comfort in this preppy look for a day of street style hunting. knowing that i would need to wear a pair of comfortable flats for all that walking around, i opted to break in my new black flats! i’ve been wanting a perfect pair of simple ballerina flats for the past couple years so i was delighted when swedish hasbeens answered my prayers and offered to send me this lovely pair after i wrote about them in this post. they’re the exact type of shoes that i expect will last me for years to come!

ooh, and while i was out street style hunting, i finally got to check out the shopping in hayes valley. i happened upon a teeny tiny little garage space called the bull and the bear. the have a beautiful selection of handmade clothing, and when i passed by, i spotted the most perfect sheer lace dress with a little peter pan collar. i’m going back this weekend to see if it’s still there!

  1. Lovely outfit!

I really wish I could find a US retailer who sells Swedish Hasbeens Ballerina Hepburn in black. I’ve been lusting after a pair for sometime, but the shipping from Sweden puts them out of reach!

    1. i’ve always gotten mine shipped directly from sweden. you wouldn’t believe how fast the shipping is. usually at my door in 3 days! also, i’ve noticed that the us retailers that carry them always add the extra $$ for shipping right into the retail price, so they end up costing just about the same.

  2. Hello Erin, love this post. I am lusting after a pair of Swedish Hasbeens flats – I have a few pair of their clogs that I lived in over Summer (in Australia). Did you get the same size you would wear in clogs? You know how sometimes even though its the same brand the sizing can change depending on the style.
    Thanks for your help. Claire.

    1. i usually wear a size us size 7.5 or 8. i got the flats in a size 39 and they fit perfectly. definitely size up! you will love them! such high quality leather, they will last forever!

      1. thanks for the sizing info. i just checked back at this post to see if anyone had asked because i am looking into buying a pair (in yellow!). i’m a true size 8, and have read that these shoes run a bit small.

  3. i LOVE sarah goins’s blog (acuriouseamstress.blogspot.com) — she doesnt post much, but i love learning about her projects! the bull & the bear seems like such a great little space! lucky you for being so nearby..

  4. Love the look! Especially the shoes! Are they as comfortable as they look? I find that so many people can wear payless or target shoes, but for me I find that they don’t last a minute or they KILL my feet (usually both). And by the end of going through 5 pairs of cheapo shoes, you can get yourself a nice pair of quality leather that will last. The Hasbeens are a bit out of my price range, but they just look so lovely!

  5. You look beautiful and cute. As always. :)
Sometimes it feels I’m at the constant search fro perfect flats. Yours look so simple & beautiful – exactly what I’m searching for!

  6. I love this outfit, it’s the kind of clothing combination I have to fall back on A LOT thanks to living in the rainy UK!

By the way, when you began your post by saying it had been a ‘pants kind of week,’ I thought you meant you’d been having a bad time of it, because ‘pants’ is often used as slang in the UK for ‘bad’, ‘crappy’ etc!

e.g ‘How was the movie?’ ‘Oh, it was pants!’ Do you use ‘pants’ as slang in the US too? x
