i am a pilgrim

calivintage: i am a pilgrim

oh hello! i am dressed like a pilgrim on acid. or at least that’s how i like to describe it. i found this little guy at a vintage shop in the mission last weekend hanging up on a wall and immediately knew that it had to be mine. and wouldn’t you know, when they took it down from the wall and i tried it on, it was the perfect fit! i especially love the exaggerated collar and trippy psychedelic print. and for whatever reason, these little shift dresses, no matter how difficult they may be to wear, always find a way to sneak into my closet and beg me to wear them.

anyway, this is what i wore to a bbq/backyard show yesterday connecting with old friends that i hadn’t seen in a long while. the weather was actually warm here in oakland, and i was able to wear this little dress all day long without a sweater! that’s pretty miraculous considering just the day before it was freezing cold and raining. but that’s the way the weather is these days. now i’m off to partake in holiday weekend festivities!

  1. i was just at mission thrift yesterday! this dress is darling. there were a couple pieces i wish i could’ve taken home with me. but i didn’t want to shell out the money. oh well! you look darling.

  2. This dress is absolutely amazing. I make dresses and although I will never be able to find this fabric, I am interested in the collar and shape of this! You look spectacular, brave choice of colour, it totally works!

  3. This outfit reminds me of your last vintage dress–your “Velma” outfit–in that it looks like the Mystery Machine!

I just recently found your blog and I love it. I enjoy reading style blogs to help inspire my bored wardrobe and yet there are so many people blogging from the Midwest; not that that’s terrible or anything it just makes it more difficult to find inspiration to get dressed in morning when all I see are shorts and espadrilles from sunny Tulsa while living in the cold and ever-rainy Pacific Northwest. I can appreciate those sweater-and-rainboots kind of outfit posts. :]

  4. A pilgrim on acid?! hahaha! I love that!

You really do have a knack for pulling off amazing little shift dresses. Frankly, everything about this outfit is just right, from your covetable Ferragamos to the oversized collar on the dress. <3

  5. Hahaha, this is great! It looks really good on you.
I wish I could wear shifts, I really love the style of them, but they just are NOT flattering on me. Sometimes I can get away with one if I belt it, but that ruins the idea of them in a way. Oh well.

  6. like i said before, i love you in vintage!! seriously, it just works so well with your little bob. all your new dress purchases should be vintage!

  7. Amazing colours! And you pull it off really well – I don’t think I’d be able to pull off that much brightmess. I love the collar as well

  8. ooooh, totally pilgrim on acid. Hahahah, i love the dress and the shades! (:
Oh! and btw, i sent you the questions for my interview for my blog. Thanks a bunch again!

  9. Wow! that dress is so pretty, I love the colors and the print, you pull off a vintage dress and Ferragamoes so flawlessly.

  11. OK, I swear I HAD this dress in about 1967…ok so yeah, I’m of THAT generation. But it looks super cute on you and brings back fond memories.
