put a bird on it

calivintage: put a bird on it

pretty much any time i see a bird on anything, i now have to reference that sketch. such was the case with my new bird print dress that i wore for a date night with the boy. and you’ll have to excuse the high volume of photos. i guess we got carried away prancing around the neighborhood in the setting sun. we were goofing off taking photos and looked over to notice some dude just watching us from his window. it was a little awkward, but i just laughed it off. i’ve been trying to be more and more brave about going out and taking pictures in public, but you would be amazed at how many people either stop to watch, or shout things from their car windows as they pass by. nothing bad, but it certainly makes me feel a little silly.

anyway, i really liked this look because it’s a little fancier than my usual attire. and it was the perfect opportunity for me to try wearing my new earrings from jene de spain. believe it or not, i have actually never worn dangly earrings before in my life. with short hair, i just never really thought they were a possibility! but these art deco-inspired earrings have proven me wrong! i actually think they are a perfect compliment to a short bob. i have been converted!

  1. Oi, these pictures are dreamy! They remind me of those silent film star portraits…with a 60s spin?
    Absolutely gorgeous!

  2. glad to see your back blogging often! i missed your frequent post i gotta say. this dress reminded me of question i’ve had for a long time.. what bra do you wear with a dress like that? if at all? i know lingerie talk may be a bit risque but it’s an honest question.

  3. I Love the black and white while the sun is setting. Its reminds me of summer evenings and really shows off the dress beautifully.

  5. Sure, deco earrings with deco hair! I love these pictures too. I think the most ridiculous thing I’ve had while taking pictures in public was some little boy who kept running into the shot behind me, and mimicking all my poses. Except he kind of put me to shame. ; D

  6. more photos are never a bad thing :) i’m glad you referred to taking photos in your neighborhood because I’ve been wondering what’s it’s like. my goal this summer is buy a camera with a tripod so i can attempt to take photos of myself, but i’ve been nervous thinking about how people will react/where to take the photos/getting mugged. glad to hear nothing bad has happened to you though!

  7. These are gorgeous photos, Erin! Though I would have loved to marvel at the colors of your dress, the photography is lovely and you look graceful.

  8. I have never seen that sketch before, thank you for sharing, it made me chuckle :)
Your dress is lovely, I love big old prints and you’re right, your earing do compliment your bob perfectly. I can’t believe though that you have never worn dangalies before!

  9. Im sorry but I am going to go on about your hair! Ahhhh you looks sooooooooooooooo cute, and this outfit kills me thoes little earring popping out of you perfect and cute little bob!!! Arrgh! ahaha..thought I would share the love!

  10. Love all the photos (especially that last one!) They remind me of stills from an old movie or something. The black and white is so great, but I would have loved to see the colors of the dress.

  11. These are so gorgeous, the light is unbelievable!

I always feel so strange when people catch me taking photos. I get so self conscious and feel so weird about it!

  12. These are such fantastic photos. I love the lighting, your expressions and that beautiful dress! So awesome. Isn’t it weird when someone is watching you? I was taking photos in front of what I believed to be a closed historic library and the whole time an old man inside was right behind me staring from his newspaper out of the old windows. Gah! Creepy, but I can’t blame him for being curious.

  13. You look so beautiful, Erin! Your dress is glorious and the dangle earrings are a perfect touch. Personally, I think larger earrings look better with shorter haircuts than with longer hair. You’ve proven my theory correct, I believe!

  14. Haha that sketch made me chuckle! I’m such a sucker for a bird, our AW11 fabrics have even more birds than before… eeeeeeek not sure when the obsession will end!

You look adorable all glammed up! It’s our date night tonight, hope I look half as pretty :)

  15. awww, so gorgeous! i love your modeling here erin – you obviously look like you feel sexy but you’re having fun and being confident at the same time. such a great combo! the back of this dress is beautiful!
