outfit: think pink

calivintage: wear pink

if you’ve been following me for a while, then you may have noticed that i don’t have a ton of pink in my wardrobe. maybe a piece or two, and that’s about it. but today i am wearing this bubble gum pink dress in partnership with the lucky style collective in honor of national breast cancer awareness month. the color may just be a little thing, but it stands as a big reminder that you can get involved to help fund treatment and research!

i stand among the millions of people who have been affected by breast cancer, as i’m sure many of you are, too. i lost a very dear and very close great aunt to breast cancer some years back, and i understand the pain of losing a loved one to such treatable condition. i even had my own scare a couple of years back and went through a pretty terrifying few months of x-rays and exams and surgery… i now have a little scar on my left breast where they removed the tumor that thankfully turned out to be benign. both of these experiences are a reminder to me of how delicate life really is. and i stand in solidarity with every woman who has experienced loss, experienced a scare, or who has fought and survived.

i strongly urge to to check out these three sites to learn more about how you can get involved:

the national breast cancer foundation

  1. How long (if at all!) did it take you to break in your breaded Hasbeens? I have the same ones in black but mine still give me blisters from the rubbing of the breads!

    1. it took about 2 or 3 wears before mine were broken-in! the leather softened up a lot and now they are one of my more comfortable pairs of heels! whenever breaking in new shoes, i always wear either band-aids on my heels or else a pair of socks for the first few wears, just in case! have you tried kneading the leather at all? sometimes i just kinda bend the leather a bunch on my shoes if they are particularly stiff and it seems to help!

      1. I’ve been walking around my house wearing them with thick socks, so that should stretch things out a bit. I got ’em right at the end of summer, and Paris has been too cold to wear them so the saga will have to continue until spring comes along. Thanks for the advice!

  2. What a lovely way to support breast cancer awareness, Erin – and pink suits you heavenly ;)
I know how it feels, I’ve lost two much loved aunts too recently because of breast cancer (needless to say my poor grandmother is quite devastated). I’ve always felt quite ‘allergic to doctors’ in general, but I eventually won my scare, booked my check up visit last week and now I am so nervous! Still, I feel very silly for having postponed it for so long… Thank you so much for spreading the word about this cause :)

  3. Bless your heart. Thank goodness you are alright, and I am so sorry for the loss of your great aunt. I always give myself a self-exam after Aunt Flow leaves, and thank you for the links!!

Your vintage dress, a gift from your madre!, is gorgeous! Love the light in these pictures as well — take care, darling! <33

  4. just wanted to let you know that I stumbled upon your blog today and I’m lovin’ it!…the ole RSS feed has been a complete bore lately and I’ve been needing some new reads to spice things up…the dress is lovely :)

  5. What a fantastic way to raise awareness for a great cause. I’m glad your scare turned out to be benign.
That said, I love this dress on you, the collar and black detailing are wonderful, your mum did a great job!

  6. wow. I’m glad they got the tumor. That is really definitely a great thing that you have shared with us all. Thanks. You look lovely! I have known of 3 people who have had breast cancer. 1 died very young. 1 got it twice and survived, though she died of Ovarian cancer this year (my God-mother.) so I saw her suffer from breast cancer for a decade. Not fun. I also have a dear friend who got breast cancer two years ago at 33 years of age, and she doesn’t have it any longer and hopefully it won’t return.
