the other day when i walked into the office at work, my coworker exclaimed, “erin! you’re wearing plaid!” my reaction was a little bit surprised, since i’ve always thought of myself as being the type of gal with a lot of plaid in her wardrobe. in fact, at the age of 22 (which has now been a very long time ago, yikes!), i went through a phase where most of my wardrobe included a heavy rotation of plaid button up shirts. but then it sunk in that perhaps the pendulum had swung in the opposite direction, and perhaps i hadn’t worn any plaid in the past year or so. crazy how those things happen. you feel almost as if a certain piece defines you, and then just like that, it’s yesterday’s news.
i may have maxed-out on a plaid a while back, but this fall it’s finally back. at least for me. which is why i pulled out this crazy blanket dress that my mom gave me a couple of years ago and finally decided to give it a spin. on this particular day, despite the sunny skies, the weather was feeling quite chilly. and what better way to brave the cold than with an essentially very fashionable snuggie? this dress was clearly handmade straight from a wool throw blanket, and it was the perfect thing to wear on a very lazy weekend day.

turtlenecks rule
yes! i can’t believe i wrote that whole post and just breezed past the fact that this is the first time i’m wearing a turtleneck since i was a little kid. turtlenecks are back in my book. can’t get enough of ’em!
I love it! All the black pieces really help showcase the dress. So fun, yet so cozy.
I like how you emphasized the dress by wearing all black. Simple but very chic. I admire your bangs, they are so perfect! lol

I’m really into plaid right now myself… I don’t have nearly enough! Ha :)
ah, 22 was really long ago now. Maybe being 28 isn’t as grand as I hoped? nah, it is. Yey for us “old” people. You look lovely in plaid!
haha, i know. can’t believe i will be 29 in a couple of months!
Old, shmold!!
i know. we’re not that old. but sometimes it feels that way! growing up is hard!
I love this outfit, but I feel like there needs to be snow around you because its just that cozy!
haha! if there actually were snow around me, imagine how bundled up i would be! it was probably in the high 50s when i took these photos and i was whining about the cold!
oh, erin, how amazing are those shoes? I adore these pics, the poses, the 60s line of the dress <3
thank you! i was feeling very mod, so i had to do some silly ’60s poses!

This may be the coolest thing you’ve ever worn. I love it all. You look like a cat burglar’s colourful side-kick from the Seventies (sitcom idea, HBO??). I’m a lover of all things plaid!

omg, that is the best outfit description ever! i love you.
I LOVE how you styled it: simply, so the dress could stand out on its own. I feel like a lot of fashion bloggers get so bogged down in overly-elaborate ensembles, but you always remind that sometimes simple is best. Lovely. :)

Hey Erin,
You are too adorable! This look is just amazing and I’m in love with it. I need to bring back turtlenecks again! I can’t seem to find them! Boo! This dress is so chic! You must move to New York soon! But it’s starting to get cold here, eeek! Hope you’ve been well. Loving your recent outfits! :)
This entire outfit is so cool, but I seriously seriously love those shoes.

plaid must be in the air at least around these parts! there’s nothing like plaid wool for a cold fall day. i love how you simply paired yours with black.

Adorable outfit! I love how you start with an all black, very sleek silhouette, then break it up with a burst of colorful, playful plaid. And the dress’ fabric looks so cozy!
By the way, I love turtlenecks too. I found a great short sleeve cashmere turtleneck a few years ago at a thrift shop. I wear it with all my winter jumpers…kind of in a similar style to what you did here!
That is one cute plaid dress! Love the colors of it! Your heels are too die for!
