i’m sure you’ve heard me talk a lot about uniforms. i usually fall into a pattern of dressing in a handful of different combinations at any given point. this fall, it’s been all about the button-up shirt. either layered beneath a sweater and a jacket with jeans or a skirt, or worn beneath a little pinafore or jumper with tights and a coat. the look i’m sharing today is definitely an old standby for me. i just switch out the pieces for different colors, patterns, and textures. case in point: this look which is almost identical but with slightly different proportions and patterns. i think it’s kinda funny how i swing back and forth between these almost boyish casual looks and very cute and feminine ’60s-inspired mini dresses. but i suppose those are just the two moods i feel the most!

anyway, this is what i wore on sunday to drive down the peninsula to visit brendan’s family for a belated birthday party. we went shopping at the stanford mall (where i found an awesome pair of high rise jeans in a beautiful terra cotta color), and enjoyed home-made ice cream cake and chocolate coffee to celebrate!

  1. This reminds me how I learned about your blog- some one had commented how you wear jeans well. Love these jeans on you- love the whole look. Classic pieces but it looks so fresh. Diggin’ that polka dot blouse. It looks so youthful and modern to me. Nice.

  2. I think I’m channeling you today. I’m wearing my Blythe blouse, boyfriend cardi, high-waisted marias, and vintage loafers. Definitely one of my go-to looks.

  3. I love it. I also love that you keep the front shirt tail (is that even the right word?) visible. I have this weird thing about not liking to see the fly of someone’s jeans. I told you it was a weird thing.

  4. Gorgeous colors and textures….such amazing details. This is a perfect example of how to be ‘casual’ but also stylish. Love it all!! Chocolate coffee sounds diviiine!

  5. I totally have that sweater in the light blue version! : ) I love that grey, though. I also love that you have it untucked… I’ve been too scared to wear mine that way cause I’m short and have been tucking it into skirts, but I just might have to try it untucked sometime… Looks great with the polka dots!
