the past couple of weeks, i have been all about dressing a bit like a tomboyish nerd. as one example, i have been wearing these urkel pants as frequently as i can without getting funny looks from my co-workers wondering if i’ve been doing my laundry on the regular… i happened to be wearing this exact getup with a navy tank top when a package arrived from my friends at tulle clothing and out came this darling lace crop top. i threw it on and that is how this particular look was born. i have to say, i’m kinda really happy that crop tops are making a resurgence these days. i don’t think i will ever waltz around baring my midriff, but pull one on with high-rise anything, and they’re pretty much perfect. they remind me of cute vintage playsuit sets from the ’40s and ’50s with little matching shorts and/or capris. perfectly summery and just a little bit sporty.

anyway, this is what i wore on a very busy saturday. we woke up bright and early to go to a used car sale held by our local credit union because our lifestyle has recently dictated that we need another car. not my number one choice, but sometimes it’s necessary, so we set out to find something fuel-efficient and low-emissions while still in our budget. not particularly easy since even used hybrids can be super expensive, but we managed to find a fancy hybrid camry that made us both feel so very responsible and grown up. after signing all the papers, we headed back home to meet with friends in the morcom rose garden by my house (where these photos were snapped) and ended the evening enjoying beers and shooting-the-shit, mourning the loss of our youth and celebrating our impending entrance into real adulthood, hah!

top: cropped top with buttons courtesy of tulle
tanks: old j.crew navy tank top
pants: american apparel calvary twill high-waist pleated pants
shoes: vintage loafers from pretty penny vintage
bag: j.w. hulme mini legacy bag
sunglasses: karen walker von trapp
lipsticks: nars heat wave

Yeah, I probably won’t be baring my midriff anytime soon either. But I totally agree that crop tops with high-waist bottoms are the amazing!

Love this look! You’ve always been great about mixing in menswear inspired pieces. I’ve been wearing my hair in this exact fashion lately. I just haven’t had time to work on it :D
