over the weekend, i decided i wanted to get out of town. so with no particular plan in mind, we hopped in the car on saturday morning and headed north. we started our day with a bit of shopping first in corte madera, then in petaluma, and finally managed to wander all the way out to bodega bay to lay on the beach and cool our warm bodies with the ocean breeze. the temperature difference between the coast and the inland areas was like night and day, and i was happier than ever that i had a change of clothes in the car because i started the day in a sun dress, sweating in the summer heat, and ended it wrapped in multiple sweaters watching the seagulls float past in the misty ocean breeze.
these bleary-eyed outfit photos were snapped at the end of our day after waking up from a nap on the beach after the crowds of people had already packed up their blankets and headed back to the warmth of their cars and beach house rentals. we, of course, followed suit and headed home watching the sun set over the ocean as we drove along highway 1.

Your hat is so adorable! I’ve always wanted to try wearing hats like that more often but I feel like I don’t really pull them off well. Maybe it’s just a mental block I have, haha. I can wear baseball caps til the cows come home, but anything more stylish I just feel like I look awkward in!
So jealous you get to wear pants and a sweater. I was just in Northern California at the beginning of the month and the weather was so perfect. Not to mention it’s so gorgeous up there!
That sweater and hat! <3
:D
Love your outfit especially the dot sweater! So lovely
Gosh it’s just so beautiful there! My grandparents live in Petaluma and I have always loved passing through there. Old Chicago Pizza in downtown Petaluma is seriously the greatest thing ever!
oh, thanks for the tip! we passed right by that place and wondered if we should go, but opted for a taqueria instead. next time i’m in the area, i’ll have to try it!
I love this casual look. The polka dot sweater and equestrian hat make for a wonderfully retro look! Sounds like you had a fun mini getaway!
beautiful, and two polka dots posts in a row makes me smile.

adorbs! can’t believe it got cool enough that you had to wear sweaters!
Loving your polkadot jumper! It’s so sweet! Lovely backdrop to your photos too :)
This post is making me so nostaligic! I used to visit these places all the time when I was going to school in Napa. Petaluma has my dream bakery job at Della Fattoria (seriously a must see). And Bodega Bay is so beautiful and peaceful. Also, you look too cute in that cozy sweater!

I never ever comment on any blog I follow, but now I just have to – the 5th photo of you is just too adorable! And I love to read your blog. Just had to get this off my chest :). Bisou from Switzerland
I love the 2nd to last and 4th to last shots!! So cute!!!!!
aw, thank you! this makes me feel especially good because these photos were a lot more candid than usual, if that makes sense. usually i try to pose and make sure things are looking flattering, but i was so cold that i wasn’t thinking as much about how i looked. perhaps this is a philosophy i need to embrace more!
I love this, the outfit is like a mash up of lovely and chic…! Love the shoot
I love this outfit. I absolutely love a day of cooler weather in summer and a day or two of warmer weather in the winter – it allows for a little bit of outfit variety. WHo doesn’t like layering every once in a while in summer? The scenery is also gorgeous. You look so lovely.
Such lovely photos- now I want to go to the beach! I love your jumper xxx
i love how the pictures you post are so intricate and yet so simple at the same time. you are soo pretty girl. love your style
thank you! that’s a really lovely compliment and it makes me feel so good about what i do! i am definitely always thinking about that balance. i love minimalism, but i also love to share little details, so i’m glad that it comes across!
Love that sweater!

Steffys Pros and Cons
Hi Erin! Such an adorable sweater! I looked on the Lulu’s website and noticed they had only large, I hope it isn’t rude to ask if the one you are wearing is also a large. The entire outfit has me drooling though :)
no, it’s perfectly reasonable to ask! i’m actually wearing a size small, but i think that the nature of it being oversized means there’s probably not a ton of variation between sizes. either that or maybe they’ll restock soon!
I love your blog! Oh and your style is amazing. love it :)
I super love this outfit!!!!!
I love this look (the clogs <3) ! You are so cute !
Caroline
I love taking little mini adventures! This one in particular looks so rejuvenating. I am definitely going to have to add that to my list of places to see. I also love your vintage equestrian hat – it’s so cute and I want to borrow it!
