it’s hard to imagine that once upon a time, i used to share five outfit posts per week on this blog. these days, i’ve fallen into a pretty consistent routine of scrambling to snap outfit photos in between errands on weekend days, leaving five out of seven outfits overlooked. i never thought much of it, but i recently realized that this means the only looks you usually see are outfits thrown on for relaxed weekend activities like grocery shopping, household chores, or maybe a quick day trip to the lake. so today i thought i’d share a more typical outfit that i wear during the work week. regardless of the weather, i tend to wear longer sleeves and cardigans, not because of dress codes, but because i always seem to be freezing cold sitting at my desk beneath an air conditioning vent! this sweatshirt dress is a pretty good option for layering up with various blouses and accessories, and it makes me feel quite prim and preppy, which always seems very office appropriate.
the sandals make it a lot more casual, but we have a pretty relaxed dress code at my office. do you have a dress code at work?

I love your bag! :) It adds a nice touch of color to your outfit!
I LOVE this outfit! It’s fun to see the neutral dress and printed shirt with a little added fun in the form of accessories. Thanks for the inspiration!

your shoes are great!!
Love the pop of colors with this outfit! Perfection!
You look like you are ready for early spirng/mid autumn. . .woah. It makes me excited about the weather changing. It makes sense though as to why you wear them in the cold office.
haha yeah. we don’t really have seasons here, either! sometimes i wish we had legit summer, but i have to leave town to experience that!
you look lovely! I have a similar dress that I wear with blouses underneath! :)
Aimée xx
I always love your outfits!!
Ah, I love this outfit so much. I really enjoy seeing more of your daily work outfits and hearing a bit about your routine. I love the layering. When I was in an office job I also wore loads of cardigans in summer because of the aircon.
Love your style and your blog. Enjoy being a dahlia girlfriend – can’t wait to see how you style their pretty dresses x
love the layers! cute outfit :)
I love the polka dots underneath the dress! Very cute, lady! I don’t have a “dress code” but I work in a professional office so it somewhat limits my wardrobe…PLUS I have to wear a cardigan EVERY SINGLE DAY to cover my tattoo sleeves. I’m the same though, I’d probably wear (or at least bring) a cardigan to work anyway because it’s always freezing ass cold in my office!
xx Adrian
You have the prettiest work wear! I’m quite in love with those dotted sleeves!

That looks like the most comfortable dress ever. I love all the different colors together. You make work wear fun!
This outfit is so cute, especially with your Swedish Hasbeens. You were one of the bloggers that inspired me to get my first pair of Swedish Hasbeens, and just the other day I got my second1 Exciting, so thanks for the tip!! And I just did a post on my blog with all of my finds while thrifting, take a look on my blog if you can!
aw, that is wonderful! swedish hasbeens are a really great company and their shoes are just so special!
I am polka dot layering inspired. Totally.

Love that bag!! Best color ever :)

It’s always freezing in my office too! haha

ahhh erin your hair! it’s so long! remember when we both had pixies?! give me your super supplements!!! :)
i know, it’s so crazy to imagine that our hairs were ever so short. i think my hair just grows a bit faster than average, which is awesome when i’m trying to grow out, but it was such a pain when i was keeping it short. this also leads to many botched at-home bang trims… haha!
Wow, this is an awesome office outfit! Love the polka dots. This look is another one of my favorite from you! Especially that bag. Unf.
Cute! I love the way you styled that Madewell dress. I wanted to buy it last week, but my store was out of my size :(
oof, that is the worst! i think i just happened to pop into the store as they were stocking them up!
Adorable as always. Those swedish hasbeens are just amazing.

This outfit is so cutey-patootey!
I am LOVING your hair, right now.
I feel I should know this… but what do you do for a living? As opposed to what do you do/do for fun. I heard the word “office” – me too. Bah! LOL, I just thought I would research as to not make a fool of myself and YOU WORK AT MODCLOTH??? Better than my office – LOL! Awww… do you know Winston? Does he snort at your feet? *swoons over Winston* Now I am going to harass you regularly for Winston updates. :D
hahaha, your comment put a smile on my face. i do know winston and he certainly does come snorting around my desk looking for food scraps on occasion. he has the silliest old man bark which provides tons of office entertainment. one of the nicest perks about working at modcloth is that everyone is allowed to bring their dog to work. it really does help to keep things stress-free to have cute critters to play with during breaks and things. :)
you look fantastic! i love your bag <3
xoxo
Super cute! Love this!
Hi Erin,

oh that’s wonderful! i’m so glad you found me, and thanks for saying hello!
I love the fun polka dots with the gray dress! And more fun with the bag- nice mix!
very cute look!
Very, very cute! I don’t think I own any long-sleeved collared shirts, and you’ve convinced me that I’ll have to change that and try more layering. I work at the corporate office for a women’s clothing retailer (I’m their copywriter), so we have a lot of freedom to have fun with how we dress.
ooh, isn’t it the best? i like that i can get dressed up all preppy business casual if i want, but i can also stroll in wearing jeans and a t-shirt if i were so inclined. and yes to long-sleeved collared shirts. i am currently obsessed with equipment!
hands down one of my favorite outfits of all times. i hope you don’t mind- i’m probably going to replicate it on myself some time! :)
oh my! that’s quite the compliment! and i do not mind at all, in fact, i’m honored.
Love that Madewell dress! It looks so good on everyone!
The color of the bag is so pretty, oh and whoever takes your photos is amazing. Hanna Marie Lei
Every time you post about working at Modcloth, a little part of me dies inside because I’m not working at Modcloth. Then I remember that I’m still in college and that it would probably help to have my degree to work there. And every time you post an outfit, a little part of me dies inside because I never look half as amazing and put-together as you do. Basically, YOU’RE KILLING ME…in the best possible way.
Love the blouse coupled with the dress.. and the bag… and the shoes – in fact massive fashion thumbs up!
That is the perfect gray dress! So simple.
So cute and love the shoes!
