riding around town with columbia

as you may already know, when it comes to bikes, i’m a bit of a fanatic. i’ve toured the california coast on a sporty touring bike, i’ve commuted to work on a cute little road bike. and i may have a bit of a habit of collecting vintage bikes…. so you know i was super excited to add a new columbia bike to my collection! if you’re not familiar with the brand, they’re basically the mother of american cycling companies. columbia has a long history, starting in 1877 when they were founded by alexander pope (who served as a mentor to henry ford himself). they invented the tandem bike, and i’m sure you’ve seen some of their classic styles from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, including those spectacular vintage cruisers decked out with banana seats and wild colors. i tend to be a little bit less flashy in my styling, so i went for the men’s westfield vintage city bike. i love the vintage styling, complete with a cute little led headlight and fender taillight. and the sturdy steel frame with internal 3 speed hub is just right for a smooth, easy ride around town.

and lately, a leisurely ride around town is exactly my speed.  i don’t commute to work or race on the weekends, i just like to hop on my city bike to get some fresh air and to clear my head. for me, it’s a luxury to get a few hours to myself so i can grab a market bag, swing by the farmers market to pick up some fresh fruits and veggies, and stop by the park for some relaxation. and i’m really excited to continue riding this bike around town in the months ahead.

the columbia westfield is available at dicks sporting goods. be sure to check out toys r us, target, amazon, and walmart where additional columbia bike models are sold.

this post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with pollinate media group® and columbia bicycles, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #ridecolumbia

easy rider

today i thought i’d share a couple of photos i snapped a few weeks ago for one of my latest posts on refinery29 my stylist! if you’re not familiar with the site, it’s a fashion hub on refinery29 featuring a selection of bloggers from all over the country. i have been representing the bay area, writing 3 posts per month on a variety of fashion topics like retro swimwear, overalls, and my latest cycle chic post. i pulled this look together for a very casual weekend ride around town, cruising past lake merritt and stopping by the farmer’s market for flowers and fruit on my trusty public bikes m8 (which just so happens to be on sale right now)!

loeffler randall girls on bikes

yesterday i caught a glimpse of this cute video by loeffler randall dedicated to their new rider bag. i love the classic satchel style, perfectly suited for fall. throw on a few strategically placed straps, and it’s also perfectly suited for fastening to your handlebars. i’d like this chic attaché regardless, but those little details make all the difference when you’re getting ready to hop on your bike for a quick ride around town.

calivintage + public bikes video!

today i am beyond excited to finally be able to share this exciting project that i’ve been working on! it was one of those things that started off as a tiny idea several months ago… i had just met with the incredible folks at public bikes to check out their local bike shop here in san francisco. at the same time, i was chatting with my videographer buddy jon who told me that he’s always wanted to create a bike video. fast forward a few months, and here you have it. a collaboration between a very cool local business built on the idea of getting more people on bikes, a very patient videographer who sat facing backwards on an xtracycle to get some awesome footage (you may remember this behind-the-scenes photo), and a silly blogger who had the pleasure of riding around oakland and san francisco with such a cool team behind me.

if you’re curious about the particular model that i’m riding, it’s the public m8 in powder blue. she’s my trusty girl. a classic, mixte frame with an 8-speed internal hub for riding up and down those treacherous san francisco hills. if you are in the market for a bike, i highly recommend them. check out the site at public bikes or follow them on twitter and facebook!

bikes + babes

i mentioned one of my side-projects the other day and realized that it had been quite a long while since i’ve done a bikes + babes post. so i flipped through the archives of my new(ish) blog, bikes + babes to pull out some of my favorite photos of– wait for it– bikes and babes. but honestly, i’ve been posting so many photos up there that i feel like you’ll need to head over to get the full scope. so consider this your teaser and then head on over to bikes + babes!

pretty colors

public circle

it’s been a long while since i’ve written a cycle chic post here! part of this has to do with the fact that i started a new blog called bikes + babes. if you haven’t checked it out, then you should definitely take a peek at all of the pictures i’ve been collecting of bikes and babes.

having said that, i’m still excited to share some bike fun with you here today! public bikes had just introduced a new set of limited edition colors for their popular C7 and V7 bikes. they already come in a beautiful selection of colors (i personally own an M8 in powder blue), but for the holiday season, they’ve introduced a sleu of new ice cream-inspired colors to choose from including pistachio, blueberry, grapefruit, salted caramel, and lemon drop. they’ve made only 10 of each, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!

and if you need a little push in the right direction, you might like to know that they are offering free shipping with code “FREESHIP “ now through 12/11.

filming a bike video

if you follow me on twitter or tumblr, you may have seen me posting about a bike video shoot yesterday. basically, i rode around oakland on my bike all day long getting footage for said video. we still have another day of shooting to go, but i’m pretty excited about what we came up with so far. especially since my pal, jon brown, who is filming and editing the video, decided that the best way to film a bike video would be to ride along with me and shoot in motion. the only catch is that you can’t ride and shoot at the same time. his solution came in the form of an xtracycle, which is illustrated in the photo below. he hitched a ride on the back of a bike while my partner, brendan, rode along with me. it must have been a pretty silly sight if you happened to see us ride past!

i have more photos and things to share, but for now i thought i would just show you this teeny tiny sneak peek!
