the whitepepper spring 2013

i haven’t been doing very much shopping lately. in fact, i’ve been making my best effort to clear my closets and pare things down a bit. but in the process, of course, i discovered that i needed to revamp some of my basics and i found myself scrolling through the whitepepper‘s new spring 2013 arrivals. they have a handful of silhouettes that can best be described as easy basics. the colors and patterns are simple and spot-on and i love that they all have a very carefree, cool sense of humor about them. pretty much all of the things that i love. i’ve already picked up a sailor dress and a couple of smock dresses, but now i think i want one of their signature angel dresses, too! so perfect and breezy for hot summer days. in addition to their uk-based site, you can also shop much of the collection on asos.

royal caballito spring 2013

a few months back, i received a very sweet email from diana, the designer behind spanish brand royal caballito and was instantly captivated. she started out her career as a photo curator and art historian traveling the world, but has now turned her passion towards design. she creates all of her textile designs using natural fibers like silk, merino, and cotton, working with small and local workshops in spain to ensure that each piece is made as ethically and sustainably as possible. her spring 2013 collection includes three whimsical prints in comfortable, free-spirited silhouettes perfect for springtime adventures. i am particularly smitten with the aqua blue watercolor print on the blouse and skirt seen above, but certainly wouldn’t mind adding any of these carefree pieces into my wardrobe!

hansel from basel spring 2013

it’s funny how easy it is for me to overlook such a simple detail like a pair of good socks, but browsing through the new hansel from basel spring 2013 collection is just the reminder i need to start adding some unexpected colors and patterns into my wardrobe. this la-based brand is pretty much at the top of my list when it comes to cool socks and stockings. i actually purchased a few pairs from their collaboration with rachel comey last season and have been greedily hoarding them, still wrapped up in their pretty packaging just waiting for the perfect time to wear them. they’re just so special that i almost want to just leave them untouched on top of my dresser so i can simply admire them. but really, i need to bite the bullet and throw them on with skinny jeans on lazy days, or with a pair of sandals on a springy afternoon. check out the full selection of spring styles here.

mrs. pomeranz spring 2013

there’s just something so perfect about a 1950s silhouette that will never go out of style. i might dabble in all sorts of vintage-inspired wares spanning the decades, but i’ll always have a soft spot for those classic 50s shapes. which is why the mrs. pomeranz spring 2013 collection has captured my attention. titled, “in the mood for love,” this collection of 1950s-inspired styles is constructed with cotton and silk printed fabrics created by the talented artists masha karpushina, ira kikina and genevieve godbout (with a few prints by liberty of london, too). the result is a bright and cheerful spring collection in ladylike silhouettes that would make a welcome addition to any vintage aficionado’s wardrobe.

if you hadn’t heard of the line before, mrs. pomeranz was launched in 2009 by designer dasha pomeranz, based out of the uk and moscow. after years of running her own vintage shop, she discovered that the demand for great vintage dresses outstripped the amount of vintage gems available, and decided to create her own 50s-inspired pieces with attention to quality construction and a modern fit. in fact, each piece is custom made-to-order so you can have a dress constructed to exactly your measurements. and i know i certainly wouldn’t mind having one of these pieces in my wardrobe!

yestadt millinery spring 2013

if you ask me, the world just doesn’t have enough hats. which is why i’m always delighted when yestadt millinery releases a new lookbook. for spring 2013, they created a perfect range of styles from classic pagalina straw fedoras to cute printed baseball caps to some very special vintage-inspired toppers like that darling straw beret above! of the inspiration behind the collection, molly yestadt says,

“the spring collection started with the color palette- like chalky sherbert- we were looking at the warhol cat illustrations for color and also [one of his] illustrations of hardboiled eggs. so strange, but so lovely. kind of taking that kitschy grandmas-kitchen-artwork vibe and mixing it in with the yestadt millinery ‘downtown’ aesthetic.”

with that kind of inspiration, you sort of can’t go wrong. and lucky for me, yestadt is currently building an online shop, but if you can’t wait, they’ve also let me know that a selection of hats are currently available at opening ceremony, dagny+barstow, and anthropolgie.

tba spring 2013

i am obsessed with this dress. i think i first came across it while (you guessed it) scrolling through pinterest, and crossed my fingers as i clicked the link waiting to see if it was 1. available and 2. in my price range. and i was delighted to see that it was from the tba spring 2013 collection. i remember last spring, they came out with a slightly similar sheer white dress with scallops in a mini length. i was always kinda bummed that i never got it, but this pretty thing is definitely making me feel better about that. and for that matter, i’m pretty delighted by much of their spring offerings over at tba. the sheer skirts are definitely my favorites, but they have a lovely assortment of prints and textures in very easy shapes that are perfect for wearing while lazing about on a hot summer day.

family affairs spring 2013

it may be a bit gloomy and rainy on my return from spring vacation, but the family affairs spring 2013 collection is brightening my mood in anticipation of may flowers. the collection is titled “night train to cassis” and features a host of hand-drawn prints fashioned after original drawings by nina herself. and as always, the inspiration is as dreamy as the looks. of the collection, nina says,

“the feeling of night train to cassis is innocence, pure fun, the color white in the sunlight, white houses in greece, sun bleached towels, putting lemon in your friends’ hair to “bleach” it, never remembering to drink enough water. taking overnight train rides to port towns in france, riding your bike too fast and laughing. fresh bread and home made jam, grass stains from all day picnics, salty hair.”

mona spring 2013

i’ve got spring break on my mind, so what better time to share the mona spring 2013 collection? it was, after all,  inspired by a greek vacation from the designer moriah’s past. she recalls, “8 days on a yacht. 8 days of wind blowing in my hair and just sailing from island to island and listening to the sea. day and night.” as she conjured up these dreamy images from her own history, she imagined what someone might have worn on a boat trip in days gone by. the result is a carefree collection of clothes that you can wear while travelling to remote locales or just dreaming of them in your own backyard. each piece offers just a wink to the past, while still remaining modern. the sailor dress gets an update in florals and plaid, and there are plenty of cute collars and pretty details throughout. and all of the pieces are available for sale in her shop right now!

marais usa spring 2013

i woke up this morning to a gloomy san francisco sky, but a quick browse through my inbox led me to the new marais usa spring 2013 lookbook, which certainly brightened my day. i asked marais girl haley boyd to tell me a bit about the shoot, “the inspiration for the campaign was a summer picnic in france – the perfect setting to feast your eyes on our spring collection. anat fritz styled the food and wardrobe, and if you look closely you will see some very unusual pairings including but not limited to squid, jello, and cupcakes from chinatown!” a decadent display, but let’s not forget the shoes! i love the playful wedges, metallic details, and fun textures in this cheerful collection.
