my nyfw: an interview with nina

as i mentioned in a few previous posts, this fashion week i was hosting a series of videos for the modcloth blog. i’ve already shared my interviews with lauren moffatt and rachel antonoff, but today i wanted to share my latest video with nina of family affairs. we stopped by her studio on a particularly hot and muggy day to get a look at the spring 2013 collection. i’m really excited about this collection and can’t wait to get my hands on a few of these pieces!

another one of my favorite presentations this season was the rachel antonoff spring 2013 collection inspired by the eames film powers of ten. if you’ve never seen it before, it’s definitely worth clicking the link! the video presents an aerial view of the earth magnified 10 times every 10 seconds, and the theme was presented throughout. the nail art depicted teeny tiny aerial views of gardens, just as seen in the beautiful silk prints presented within a literal garden maze setting. the girls wore simple geometric eyeliner with pale purple stained lips as if she may have snuck off into the bushes at the country club to sneak a glass of wine or make out with a boy. the story was fun, the presentation was top notch, and it was a pleasure to be able to attend!

these photos were shot by me, many of which were originally posted on the modcloth blog.

my nyfw: lauren moffatt spring 2013 presentation

lauren moffatt spring 2013 presentation

after last season’s fall 2012 presentation in an old abandoned schoolhouse, i was eagerly anticipating the new lauren moffatt spring 2013 collection. this season, lauren was inspired by the prim and proper lawn tennis outfits of the 1960s and the bold colors of a neighborhood public pool. the result was a bright and colorful collection that was a little bit buttoned-up with a perfect undone edge.

i met up with lauren’s team backstage to record a fun little video and snap a few photos all of which was originally published on the modcloth blog. enjoy!

family affairs spring 2013 preview

one of my favorite fashion week traditions is getting the chance to visit with nina of family affairs. for the past few years, each season, i stop in with rebecca of the clothes horse to eat sweet treats, and coo over her latest designs. for spring, nina hand-illustrated all of the prints on clean white silk and cotton fabrics for a very light and whimsical effect. i was particularly smitten with the sixties-inspired silhouettes. not only that, but she’s also introduced a collection of housewares for the first time! i only snapped a few photos, but i promise to share the full look book once it’s ready!

my nyfw: samantha pleet spring 2013 presentation

samantha pleet spring 2013 presentation

on wednesday evening, i had the opportunity to attend the samantha pleet spring 2013 collection. it was shown at the wolverine store in soho in honor of her recent shoe collaboration with the brand. the collection was inspired by the ancient societies of the fertile crescent and the 19th century explorers that rediscovered them. you an certainly see the historical references in the intricately painted silk prints alongside that adorable three-piece shorts suit!

my nyfw: whit spring 2013 presentation

whit spring 2012 presentation

one designer that i’ve really enjoyed following the past couple of years is whitney pozgay. she started her career as an accessories and apparel designer at kate spade before moving on to steven alan and eventually starting whit in 2010. last season, she showcased some serious space age styles, and for her spring 2013 presentation, she brought a major dose of tropical paradise with campy prints, clean stripes, and simple silhouettes. added bonus? adorable straw hats by yestadt millinery and cute shoes by marais usa. a trio of favorites that always keep me coming back for more.

carven resort 2013

i know i’m a little late in the game sharing this collection, but i loved the carven resort 2013 collection so much that i just had to share it here. my obsession with the brand really solidified last year when they released their 2012 resort collection with that incredible acid yellow pinafore and those darling little bow flats, leading me to dig deep into my pockets and actually invest in a designer piece. in my world, these collections are reserved for inspiration only, but carven is just so perfect that i find myself counting pennies trying to figure out how i will afford another piece! the color combinations are amazing, and the shapes and silhouettes add even more interest.
