a current affair: pop-up vintage marketplace this weekend!

DEC14fullonesheetinsta

it’s time once again for a current affair, my favorite pop-up vintage marketplace, happening this weekend at the cooper design space on saturday, dec. 6 from 1 – 7pm. if you live in the la area, then i highly recommend you check it out. the venue is beautiful, the sellers are all top notch, and there’s even an open bar!

you can find more info here and buy tickets here. hope to see you there!

joshu+vela

it seems like no matter how many handbags or accessories i own, i always tend to gravitate towards one or two pieces that i end up wearing almost every single day. two such items that have been currently getting a lot of wear are my clare v. messenger bag and this amazing patent leather joshu+vela envelope. they’re such a pretty duo that i hardly ever switch them out. i purchased the handbag shortly after adam was born as a little gift to myself. at the time, i didn’t even realize how practical it would be: the roomy size means it doubles as a lightweight diaper bag on quick excursions where i don’t need to carry much more than an extra diaper and a few toys.

the wallet was a gift from the designer, something i would not have picked for myself, but that has quickly become a favorite. first off, it is  the most perfect mustard yellow hue, and second, the patent leather makes it pretty much indestructible in the hands of a teething infant. it’s pretty, it’s practical, it’s handmade made in san francisco, and it’s a perfect gift (for yourself or someone special).

want: marais usa cowboy mules

i’ve been going through my fall wishlist, and a new pair of shoes are at the top of my list! all summer long, i was scouring ebay and etsy for a pair of western mules that i’d dreamed up in my head. i found a few pairs that weren’t my size, and was getting pretty discouraged until this perfect pair popped up by marais usa. i love the almond-shaped toe and the low heel, and i really like the way the haircalf adds just the right touch of interest. or if you want something a little more flashy, they also come in two different snakeskin patterns and leopard print!

closet cleaning season

the seasons are changing, and i’ve been going through yet another massive closet-cleaning session, getting ready to let go of all those clothes that have just been taking up space in my closet. this time, i’m saying goodbye to a ton of cute party dresses by boutique designers, as well as a good chunk of barely worn high street pieces. unfortunately, while i might be long on clothes, i’m short on time. so for this round, i’ve teamed up with twice to offer you the chance to shop my closet. this week, i’ve been packing up dozens of dresses, separates, shoes, and bags for an upcoming calivintage pop up shop! all of the pieces you see here (and like 80 more pieces) will be up for sale online very soon!

the nice thing about the service is that all you have to do is request a selling kit and then ship off all of your used items to be photographed and listed for sale on the site. from there, you simply wait for a check in the mail. i just don’t have the manpower to list all of this stuff online and then pack and ship that many boxes, so this really is the next best thing. everything will be ready to go soon, so consider this your sneak peek. and i’ll give you guys the heads-up when the pop up shop is open!

want: roberta heels

i’ve been trying to keep a handle on my wishlist lately. but sometimes i can’t help but fall hard for something new. such is the case with maryam nassir zadeh. years ago, they had a pair of shoes that unfortunately got away from me (which still haunt me in my dreams). since then, i’ve always kept an eye on their beautiful inventory and carefree product styling. and wouldn’t you know, i’m stuck on their latest shoe collection. in particular, the sleek and minimal roberta heels, which come in a variety of colors from saffron to turquoise to chalky grey. if i could, i would swiftly snap them up in every color and wear them all fall.

want: j.w. hulme west end collection

the new west end collection by j.w. hulme was inspired by the hardware used on their first travel bags from the 1930’s. i love it when heritage brands look deep into their archives to bring back old styles, and i’m especially smitten with the james handbag, which appears to be fashioned after a cool vintage binocular bag. i had a friend long ago who carried a bag similar to this that she’d found at a thrift store, and i’ve always wanted one, even after all these years!

golly magazine

all summer long, i’ve been seeing little sneak peeks of the work going on behind-the-scenes at golly magazine. and after months of curiosity and anticipation, they have just released their inaugural issue. it was created by two of my longtime internet pals alley o’shea and emily theobald alongside roxanne fequiere, and the first issue boasts tons of awesome content.

but of course, pulling together a publication like this is no small feat, and there are plenty of talented writers, photographers, and creatives that need to get paid. so they’ve set up a kickstarter campaign to help fund subsequent issues. i highly recommend you check it out and consider sending some funds their way.

go get a copy of issue one and read more about the project on kickstarter!

clare v. x steven alan

earlier this summer, clare v. and steven alan teamed up for a cool photoshoot featuring some of the designer’s offerings available at steven alan stores. i don’t know much about the shoot, but i can tell by looking at the photos that it was shot in and around the clare viver boutique in silverlake. after years of coveting her classic messenger tote, i finally got one a few months back. and ever since, i’ve found myself lusting after so many of her minimalist designs. that and i now want to copy that exact look above. so much good.
