one for the money

i may have a pretty strong collection of vintage coach purses, but whenever i reach into my fancy bag to make a purchase, i pull out a raggedy old nylon wallet bursting at the seams full of useless cards and old receipts. i’ve had that thing so long, i can no longer remember when or where i got it. and while i don’t necessarily think about it too often, i am occasionally embarrassed when i pull it out and secretly wonder if that snobby shop clerk just shot me a disapproving glare, and there i am, feeling like i’m reenacting a scene from an episode of seinfeld, worried about what people think about my crappy wallet!

so, i finally decided to do some browsing and upgrade to something leather. a quick search through the selection at some of my favorite online department stores, and i quickly recognized that buying a leather wallet can be quite the investment, with prices easily reaching $100 or more for such a simple little accessory. and then i remembered everyone’s favorite online marketplace and did a long search through the pages on etsy and came up with quite a few affordable and handmade wallets, coin purses, and clutches. now i just have to choose…

  1. That second one is so cute! I def need a smaller wallet. I've been using my Hobo International one every single day for 3 years, and it's great, but so huge! Doesn't fit in cute vintage purses!

  2. I actually have sort of the opposite concern: (please don't interpret this as boasting) I received a very nice prada zip up pouch a couple years ago and while I do store things in it and keep it in my purse, I am hesitant to use it in a visible way for fear of being judged as snobby or as an attention whore. despite the fact that I do genuinely like it very much.

  3. first, i must say that i love your reference to one of the greatest shows ever: seinfeld. my dad and i pretty much speak in seinfeld to one another.

second, etsy is my number one go-to place for pretty much anything i want or need!

  4. I know what you mean about wallets. I shelled out like $100 for a Fossil one maybe a year ago and the edges are already starting to wear. (It's otherwise built like a tank, though.)

But I love the Jujie one! I've been in the market for a new ID holder/keychain, and her wee 'Jenbaby' ones are perfect. (Plus she's also based in Toronto! Whee!)

  5. the scalloped, definitely … no, the blue … oh … goodness me … how about just getting all of them? ;)

  6. I vote for the scalloped one. Very cute. This reminds me I need to get a new one myself. Mine has the banana from the Velvet Underground album cover, but the yellow paint is wearing off so now it just looks like an unidentifiable oblong object, which could be kind of shady. :D
