my nyfw: nyc bound

calivintage: nyc bound

i’m currently sitting in the sfo airport watching planes that i will not board. today marks the first day of my trip to nyc, but as you can see, things have already gotten to a shaky start. i missed my flight even though i was in line 50 minutes prior to departure (long story). and i got the full treatment complete with grumpy airport clerks and crying babies. but i’m certainly not complaining. i’m now sitting in a quiet corner gazing out the window and enjoying a warm cup of coffee hoping that a few people on this next flight will have a similar fate as me, so i’ll be able to snag their seats and make it to nyc by tonight. fingers crossed!

  1. I was taking almost this same trip last tuesday! (Almost meaning I was headed into Newark rather than JFK) And I was an hour and a half early for my flight and it took such a long time to check in bags because the lady working at check in was texting rather than attending to my bag……….. i ended up sprinting to my gate.

    Airports will never be simple!!!!

    1. the worst! i remember there was a time when you only needed to arrive an hour before departure, but now they have these really strict cut off times. i waited in line for twenty minutes only to get turned down once i got the the clerk. they used to call people out of line to make sure everyone waiting made the cut off time, but no luck for me! oh well!

  2. I still remember the day I was going back home from San Francisco, they almost made me miss my flight as, being a non-US resident, I had to go through a lot of extra security steps, it was insane. At one point they even put me into some sort of glass cabin where all of a sudden I was literally shot by dozens of… I don’t know, “air bullets”?! I could see my hair being swept away, apparently it was a device able to smell explosives, analyzing the particles blown off of me… I was truly shocked :D And after that, a desperate run to the gate!
I hope you can manage to get to New York soon, Erin! Have a safe trip,
    Ale

  3. Oh dear I sympathize! I think the airport can either be great (when it all goes smoothly) or just horrendous if you’re stuck there. Good luck on your travels and hopefully the planes are empty at night!

  4. Last week I was in Oregon with a layover in San Francisco and I ended up missing my flight to NJ because of fog delays at SFO all day. Long story short I got really familiar with the airport as I had to stay there all night. Also, my friend (who I had gone to visit in Oregon) was supposed to fly home this past weekend but couldn’t because SFO cancelled her flight (two times actually) from Oregon there. I don’t know what’s going on with that airport lately!

  5. Grr frustration. However, things could definitely be worse! and what better place to be stuck in than an airport-I love them!!! You should walk around pretending you’re all sorts of different people…going on holiday here, meeting someone over there, picking up someone coming back from who knows where…! Lots of fun to be had…
