collections: good night, day fall 2017

i know, i know. i live in southern california where it hardly gets cold. my friends living in colder climes are always quick to point out that i am a total cold weather novice. but two things: 1. contrary to popular belief, it does get pretty cold out here. it doesn’t snow, but we’re out on the very edge of the desert, so we end up with pretty extreme temperature drops in the evenings, often dipping below freezing, and 2. despite that, i admit that it really is warm and sunny most of the year, which is why i am all the more obsessed with those rare occasions when i can wrap myself in a cozy sweater. but the truth is, i’m usually not prepared with nearly enough sweaters. so this year, i decided it was high time i started building a better cold weather wardrobe. and this season, one of the first places i looked was the canadian-based knitwear line good night, day.

i’ve followed designer tara-lynn morrison since i first started blogging, and have enjoyed watching her work evolve over time. in many ways, i feel like my aesthetic has grown and changed right along side hers. and i’ve only grown to appreciate her ethical stance in the business even more and more as the years pass by. all of her yarns are ethically sourced, and every single piece she sells is made by her, by hand. her goal is to create classic pieces that will last a lifetime so that you can reduce the amount you buy and contribute to a more sustainable, consciously political, slow fashion movement.

and without skipping a beat, part two of the good night, day fall 2016 lookbook. all of the designs are so thoughtful and beautiful, made better knowing that designer tara-lynn morrison uses only sustainable yarns fairly sourced from south america and only her hands to knit each and every order. i’ve been following her since i started blogging, and each season i think that she can’t top herself, and yet she does! her latest round of knits make me wish i could move up to canada and swath myself in her luxuriously soft shawls and toques.

if you like what you see, make sure to check out part one of her collection and to head on over to shop good night, day.

good night, day fall 2016 (pt. 1)

i have long been a fan of canadian designer tara-lynn morrison and her knitwear brand good night, day. i think our online friendship began right around the same time that i became a blogger over 8 years ago! which is truly impressive when i really start to think about it. she’s been dreaming up beautiful knits for years and hand-knitting every single piece in her shop, and continuing to inspire me as i follow along on her journey. with fashion, it’s so easy to get swept away with the latest trends or the most sought-after labels without thinking too much about who made them or where they came from. but tara-lynn’s work stops you in your tracks and helps to shake you out of your fast-fashion trance. all of her fibers are ethically sourced from south america and every single piece has been knit by her. when you make a purchase from good night, day you are contributing to the slow fashion movement. her work is consciously political, sustainable, and beautiful.

and this season, she does not disappoint. looking at these images, i want to step right into the dreamy world that she’s created, draped in luxurious textures and feeling the crisp autumn air against my skin. my favorite is definitley the dark umber inklin sweater seen above. it seems like the perfect thing to wear with a pair of jeans or thrown over a simple dress on a chilly day.

good night, day knits

a5be680eb3127361f63b878bedc9f5c2

i know i already wrote about good night, day earlier this fall, but designer tara-lynn has created yet another beautiful set of photos to accompany her hand made knits! and she has just released a beautiful new knitting patterns book! her sustainable knits are handcrafted in canada by tara-lynn herself using carefully sourced, fair trade wools from uruguay and peru. if you’re at a loss for gifts to give, i highly recommend this collection. you know your money is being well spent on a practical item that will last for years to come. adam has a couple of her handmade toques that we absolutely love! they’re super soft and warm, and he loves them so much that he requests to wear them nearly every single day.

good night, day 2013 lookbook

today i am home sick from work, and even though i told myself to stay away from the computer and get some rest, i couldn’t resist because tara-lynn sent me the images from her fall 2013 lookbook for good night, day and i had to share them! i’ve been following this talented lady since at least as long as i’ve been blogging, admiring her beautiful hand knits and inspirational images. just looking at these photos makes me feel all warm and cozy. i can’t even decide on a favorite: a luxurious hand-knit toque, or a beautiful watercolor blue sweater dress, or maybe even a cute little knitting kit to keep my fingers busy on a lazy weekend day.
