link roundup

i’ve noticed that fridays aren’t exactly my best days for doing outfit posts. so today i decided to shift my usual saturday link roundup to today! behold, some of my favorite style blog posts from this week.
sally jane vintage: and i ain’t seen the sunshine since i don’t know when
to be honest, jennifer always has some of the most creative and beautiful outfit posts out there. it’s hard for me to keep her off my list of favorites each week! but i had to include this lovely shot she got in front of a train with the hem of her dress billowing in the wind. so pretty!
orchid grey: the difference between a winkle picker and a brothel creeper
julie is the master of the cool and casual outfit! this look is pure preppy perfection with the pop of turquoise on her horn-rimmed classes perfectly complimenting her blonde hair and chambray dress.
the cat’s pajamas: (belated) birthday dress(es)
i always look forward to jessica’s outfit posts because this girl has a serious collection of beautiful vintage dresses. i love this incredible 1930’s polka dot dress that she got from liebemarlene!
liebemarlene vintage: reynoldstown
speaking of rhiannon, i just love this simple and elegant laid back look. and she’s wearing those awesome sandals that were recently featured in the alexa chung for madewell presentation. she’s got me wishing we had a madewell in the bay area!
jen loves kev: teacher style file
i absolutely love jen’s crisp and clean spring look. this is perfect outfit inspiration as we head into the weekend. i love the sophistication of the trench and dark denim skinnies paired with flats and a plaid blouse. so good!
my floor is red: will never be far from here
i just recently discovered this wonderful blog and fell in love with her lacey dress paired with black tights and cross necklace. the cream color of the dress keeps this romantic gothic look in perfect tune with the spring season ahead of us!
and the winner is…
m. was selected as the winner of the rare treasure vintage “le chic” canvas bag giveaway! the winner was selected using the random number generator at random.org.
thank you so much for everyone who entered the contest, but don’t worry if you didn’t win this time. there will be many more opportunities to win more cool stuff each week thanks to the wonderful sponsors of calivintage!
my statement piece
nope, i’m not talking about the dress. today it is all about my brand new haircut! i am very excited to share the results of my excellent salon experience last night with shannon at revamp salon in san francisco. i am telling you, if you live in the area or are coming in on a trip, you must book an appointment. and they are not paying me to say that. i just really love the cuts that shannon gives me. and in honor of the new cut, i decided to keep it simple with the styling in my little mod dress, but it’s gonna be tons of fun styling outfits with the new ‘do. it’s amazing how a cut can completely change the way you dress, and i love having my hairs short because it gives me more room to wear high collars and puff sleeves and all those pretty little details that i love so much.
anyway, we’re cutting my hair in stages so we can have fun trying different looks. we really didn’t take off too much hair for the first stage, but it’s definitely a nice change. after this, we might try something even more vidal sassoon. shannon mentioned that he’s always wanted to do the classic five point cut. i don’t know if we’ll do that exactly, but it’s gonna be fun to try more angular looks before taking it all the way up to a pixie cut this summer. ah, getting my hair cut is so much fun.

calivintage around the web
the folks over at the aol lemondrop blog recently contacted me and asked me about the top 10 things i can’t live without this spring. this season, i’ve been very deliberately planning out my favorite looks and trends, so i jumped at the chance to share some of my picks! i must say, there is something very pleasing about making lists, and this one is no exception. so definitely go check it out and tell me what you think about my top spring items.
in other news, i was recently interviewed by beauty and the feast and offered a few of my beauty tips and tricks and revealed that besides being a blogger, i’m also a certified pastry chef!
i was also featured on one of my favorite online vintage boutiques, bows and bandits in a little street style section. they picked one of my outfits and offered some cool vintage options for styling up something similar. it was definitely an honor to be featured on such a cool site!
i also wanted to give a little shout out to style sample magazine. i was included in their great coverage of the blogger conferences that happened during fashion week. in addition to an article on their blog, you can also find my picture on page 9 of the online mag. very cool!
and last but not least, was also interviewed by jasna over at style scoop. check it out to find out why i started blogging and to read some of my advice for aspiring bloggers.
calivintage in 7×7 magazine
today i am excited to share a little magazine feature about me and some other lovely san francisco bay area bloggers in 7×7 magazine! it’s a local san francisco lifestyle magazine, so while you wont be able to run out and pick up a copy unless you live in the bay area, they have a really great website where you can catch the feature online. just click here to find out about my favorite spring trend and a little tip on being cheap and chic. also, get a look at some of the other great bloggers featured in the article, including our great photographer for the feature, jt from our local street style site, the sf style!
street style sunday
as much as i love dresses, sometimes they feel just a little bit too easy, so lately i’ve found myself interested in finding lots of ways to wear separates. i just love the quirky way these ladies put together their ensembles.

link roundup
the snail and the cyclops: los angeles adventures
i love this photo taken off interstate 5 in california. since i’m from southern california and currently live in northern california, it’s an interstate that i know all too well, having done the 7 hour drive to visit family several times a year. it’s a particularly miserable and barren trip, but i love the way she captures the subtle beauty in this photo.
vintage portalen: spring, please come soon.
my mom just recently send me a silk dress with red polka dots very similar to this dress. i absolutely love the way she paired hers with a peach short sleeved cardigan, especially because peach and orange are certainly some of my favorite colors for spring!
fascination drop: break up the children, put them to sleep
i really enjoy this simple, casual ensemble with high rise shorts rolled up at the hem. i’m keeping my eyes peeled in the thrift shops for shorts just like these, since i think they’re the perfect spring staple this year. (warning: when you click on the link, her blog will play music.)
rosemud: goin’ to the country, gunna eat a lotta peaches
more of my favorite color! i absolutely adore this beautiful peach coat, especially paired with baby blue, socks with sandals, and a head wrap. it’s all of my favorite things wrapped up into a beautiful, haunting image.
stay fancy free: particularly merino
one of my favorite etsy sellers just came out with a new hand-knit turban headband. it’s the perfect accessory for this time of year, while it’s still a bit chilly out. and i love the way she styled it with a pretty vintage cape. you can purchase the simcoe turban headband here.
nadinoo: peak behind the scenes part 2
another one of my favorite designers, nadinoo, gave us a few sneak peeks this week into her spring collection. in my opinion, it’s her best collection yet! you can now purchase the first few pieces here. my personal favorite so far is fleur’s petal dress.
loud mouth
omg tgif you guyz! i don’t know about you, but i am particularly excited about the weekend this time around. it’s been a long week of staying indoors a little bit more than i’d like to, and i’m kinda ready to get out there and see the world. and by “see the world,” i mean sea world. no wait. i mean, go to the flea market on saturday, and then off on a sunday trip up to my favorite little brick oven bakery and go for a drive on a secret little windy road that opens up to bodega bay. and i’m gonna try to take my camera with me, because i realized that i never share my little excursions with you!
and so, in celebration of friday, i decided to have a little fun and get all matchy-matchy with this outfit. instead of trying to bring in a bunch of elements to break it all up, i opted to keep it simple and try out this bright shade of orange lipstick instead. i’ve always kinda hated lipstick because it feels so thick and heavy on my lips, bit i keep seeing cute curls rockin awesome colors and pulling it off so well. i think i’d like to try bubble gum pink and maybe a lighter shade of sherbet orange… let the experimentation begin!
it came from outer space
oh hey guys, it’s just PARIS FASHION WEEK. and i wish i was there, but i’m not. but that’s ok, because i’ve got the internet. and i was a total insomniac the other day and compiled all my favorites thus far into little galleries. and i do declare that i’m rather enjoying the funky fresh vintage inspiration all over the runways, like giles fall 2010. each model looks like she just stepped off the set of a campy science fiction b movie with those big bouffants and retro silhouettes. the color combos are clean and refreshing and most importantly, it’s vintage inspiration for days. reminding me to be a little more playful when thinking of what to wear.
and with that, i leave you with a few detail shots of these furry googly eye handbags. perhaps they came from outer space!
