adam: week 1

i can’t believe it’s been over six weeks since adam was born! i know he’s been absent on the blog, but if you follow me on instagram, then you’ve seen me posting his little baby outfits. i now understand why new parents plaster millions of baby pictures all over social media. i am completely obsessed with this little being, and can’t resist photographing his every move. when he was born and i started snapping pictures, i decided i would try to take a photo of him at least once a week. and looking back, i’m already glad that i did. i can’t believe how much he’s grown in such a short amount of time! in the next week or two, he will have already outgrown his tiniest clothes! i know it’s such a small thing, but it’s kind of heartbreaking to imagine folding up some of those little onesies knowing that he will never be that small again…

anyway, enough of the sappy stuff! i’ve been hoarding all of these photos to myself, and then i realized it would be fun to share them here. i’m six weeks behind, so i’ll be playing catch up for a bit, but hopefully you’ll enjoy getting a little glimpse into my world. these are a few photos from his first week of life, in which he looks an awful lot like a grumpy little gnome!

wolfechild spring 2014

it’s not only adult clothing that’s been catching my eye this season. earlier this month, the illinois-based wolfechild released their spring 2014 baby and children’s hand-made collection, and i want it all. one of the perks of having an infant around is that i get to dress him up like a little doll. as if babies weren’t cute enough, i just can’t get over it when i see them wearing teeny tiny clothes with silly hats and entirely impractical little shoes. i’m especially in love with the nautical striped onesies and little chambray numbers because i’m a sucker for really simple baby clothes, but of course i love all of these amazing patterns and prints, too! just throw on some saltwater sandals and your little one is photo-ready.

ace & jig spring 2014

i’ve been a fan of the cool stylings over at ace & jig for a couple of years now, and this is the season i’ve finally decided to give them a try. it’s a bit more casual than what i’ve worn in the past, but living in los angeles and having my new bebe, everything in this collection seems like the perfect thing to wear these days. alone, each piece is well-constructed out of super soft, custom-made cotton textiles, and as you can see by the styling of this collection, they really can be worn to suit just about any style. this season, the designers were inspired by carousels.

“the joyous ride creates an intricate reflection on the spectrum of color and the interlacing strands of shadow and sheer light. the glow, the glaze, the aura take on new formed woven dimensions. the linear blur of flickering textures mark this playful passage of movement. silhouettes take on more variety and volume yet remain timeless, creating a magical composition.”

the collection will soon be available at of a kind.

want: charlotte stone sandals

i came across these simple sandals by charlotte stone while browsing pinterest (of course) and now i can’t get them out of my mind. they come in a number of colors, but i think my favorite is this pair in white. the brand is based here in los angeles and the shoes are all hand-crafted in brazil. definitely on my (growing) list of shoes i want this spring/summer.

giantlion spring 2014

so excited to share the new giantlion spring 2014 lookbook. all of these beautiful pieces are handcrafted by designer caroline whittington young using raw stones, bronze, sterling silver, and gold. what i love most about her pieces is that they are classic and timeless, the types of jewels you can wear every day. in fact, i’ve been wearing my gold scoop ring nonstop ever since the swelling in my fingers went down after having adam. and i certainly wouldn’t mind adding some of her new rings (and necklaces and bracelets) to my stack!

ilana kohn spring 2014

i know fashion month isn’t quite over, but i figured it was time to change gears and start sharing some of my favorite spring 2014 collections, especially since i’m currently on the hunt for some new spring clothes. one designer that i really want to give a try this season is ilana kohn. her spring 2014 collection is filled with exactly the types of pieces that i’ve been wanting to incorporate into my own wardrobe. plenty of separates to mix and match, and simple dresses that you can pull on with a few accessories before you’re on your way. ilana started out as an editorial illustrator for close to a decade before she decided to switch gears and to merge her love of illustration and prints with her interest in designing clothes. each season, she releases another set of beautiful prints with simple pieces in interesting silhouettes, the types of versatile clothes that make sense in any wardrobe and exactly what i would love to be wearing this spring.

samantha pleet fall 2014

not sure about you, but i’ve been catching glimpses of the new samantha pleet fall 2014 collection and film over the past several weeks on social media, eagerly anticipating their release. the film will be screening tonight in nyc, and while i can’t be there, i have a little preview of the collection along with some stills to tide me over. once again, samantha has pulled inspiration from historical references, this time inspired by the visions of joan of arc. and while the imagery is stunning, and i’m sure the film is going to be amazing, let’s not forget the clothes! there’s a mix of well-made frocks and outerwear along with intricately embroidered motifs, and beautiful hand-made prints.

2 HEART SHIRT and BOUND PANTS

karen walker fall 2014

last season was my first opportunity to attend a karen walker show and i just about died. she’s long been a favorite, and while i wasn’t able to make it to nyfw this time around, i still had plenty of fun flipping through the looks. this season, the new zealand-based designer was inspired by suffragettes, creating a fun and rebellious collection of cool clothes (and sunglasses). she incorporated a striking broken-heart, hand, and hammer print, featured on a few cool dresses and in little brooch pins. and there were cheeky little phrases scattered about. i enjoyed the oversized silhouettes with little nods to menswear and a bit of victoriana thrown into the mix. definitely makes me wish i was the karen walker girl.

band of outsiders fall 2014

i’ve long been a fan of band of outsiders, but this season really caught my eye. mostly because there were about 500 pictures from the presentation plastered all over my instagram feed, but that’s definitely not a bad thing (even if it did make me a little bummed that i had to skip out on nyfw this season)! the brand focuses on wearable separates, of which there were plenty this season. everything looked so warm and cozy, but it was far from simple or boring. the designer was inspired by lee miller, man ray, and elsa schiaparelli as you could see in the cool tromp l’oeil details and illustrated backdrop. definitely a collection i wouldn’t mind getting my hands on this fall.
