calivintage: artichoke hearts

last week, i went on a little photo shoot for the style resolutions series on the modcloth blog. we headed out on a stormy day to try to get some shots, but unfortunately, we only got a few snaps before it started to rain. and i couldn’t remove my hand from my head for fear of losing my hat in the wind! but this was my outfit for the day. almost all vintage except for my jeffrey campbell heels and my trusty satchel. i’ve been meaning to get back to wearing more vintage lately, but with a very busy schedule, it can be hard to make it out to the thrift shops, especially because it takes a lot of digging to find just one prized possession. but i’m trying to remember to take more time to do the things i love, thrifting included!

in fact, you can read more about it on our latest modcloth post, style resolutions: round two! and a very special thank you to kristin cofer for taking these photos!

tba spring 2011

last year, i made my very first tba purchase in the form of this pretty cream colored dress. i loved it so much, that i’ve been eagerly anticipating their upcoming spring 2011 collection ever since. so after much deliberation, i headed over to asos and made my spring purchase, which will hopefully be arriving in the mail some time this week! but since they’re still on their way, i thought i’d share some of my favorite pieces from the collection as a bit of spring inspiration on a rainy monday morning!

peter jensen fall 2011

over the past couple of years, peter jensen has become one of my favorite designers to watch. so i was delighted to discovered the new fall 2011 collection was up on the site today! and i was pretty excited to see that his latest collection is titled, “anna karina.” and as you can see, he took his influences from one of my favorite vintage style icons! not only that, but the new revamped site also promises that there is a shop coming soon, which means i’m that much closer to getting my hands on some of these pieces!

karen walker eyewear 2011

last year, i bought my first pair of karen walker sunglasses. i love them so much, that i’ve found a way to incorporate them into a good portion of my outfits for the past twelve months. so naturally, i was excited to check out the newest selection of karen walker eyewear available for 2011! i’m loving the round shapes, and the incorporation of oranges and pinks into the mix, especially since i’ve been so obsessed with orange this spring. now my only problem is that i can’t decide which pair i like the most!

hansel from basel fall 2010

yes, i am terribly late in posting this, but somehow the hansel from basel fall 2010 collection slipped past me until now! but i just had to share the lookbook photos and some of my favorite styles from the collection anyway! besides this collection, i also have to mention one of my other favorite things about hansel from basel: sock of the month club! each month, one pair of socks or tights goes on sale for $10 and you can sign up to be a part of the club to find out which pair. awesome!

my view at marc by marc jacobs fall 2011

marc by marc jacobs fall 2011

one of the highlights of my trip to new york was receiving my very first invitation to the marc by marc jacobs show. when i first started getting into fashion as a high school student (i’m going to date myself and tell you that was ’96 – ’00), i was immediately drawn to marc jacobs and prada. and there’s no denying jacob’s strong influence in fashion, and to this day, he is still one of my favorites, so it was an honor to be able to attend this show.

since everything happens so fast at shows, i was torn between trying to snap my own pictures and just enjoying that brief moment each look breezes by. but above are some of the shots that i did manage to snap between gasps and oohs and aahs. on the whole, this collection was definitely very wearable. i loved the little shorts suits and pretty silk dresses in stunning jewel tones and metallics balanced out by warm tones of brown, orange, and maroon. but in particular, i’ve got my eye on that stunning gazelle print! or at least i think it was a gazelle. i’ll admit that from my seat at the show, i thought they were reindeers at first. so feel free to correct me if i’m wrong!

and for the sake of sharing the complete looks, below are some shots of my favorites via style.com.

boy by band of outsiders spring 2011

on the heels of my post about the orla kiely spring 2011 collection with it’s desert theme, i thought i would share another one of my favorite spring lookbooks from boy by band of outsiders featuring kirsten dunst. the photos were shot at huntingdon botanical gardens in pasadena, ca. it’s another lovely southern california setting that’s got me feeling a bit homesick, even though i’ve been living in the bay area for the past 10 years! but photos aside, i’m also loving the actual collection and the simple styling with cool wedge sandals and round sunnies!
