calivintage: redlands pride

oh hello. i’m in redlands! i’m going to be working from los angeles all week, so i decided to come to town early this weekend to visit with family. these photos were taken by my brother after i woke up from a bbq induced coma yesterday afternoon, as we kicked around in my grandma’s backyard and around the neighborhood. i had originally purchased this marc by marc jacobs skirt with the intention of layering it up for cool weather, and was saving it in my closet for the perfect fall day. but when i was packing for my trip and i discovered that the highs would be reaching the 90s during my visit here, i realized that i would have to find a way to wear it for the “summer.”

i like that i ended up pairing it with an orange top while hanging out in redlands, since this little old town is known for it’s orange groves. well, at least it used to be back in the day. even my childhood home was surrounded by orange groves, but by now, most of them have been replaced by housing subdivisions. but it’s still nice to hold onto those memories of hot summer days with the smell of orange blossoms thick in the air…

  2. I remember seeing that print on the runway and thinking, “How can an everyday woman wear that?” well – you, my dear are very special and not everyday :) and it looks amazing with that orange top! When the weather finally cools down it would be so chic with a creme sweater and boots! Do you even own any boots?! Why do I feel like I’ve never seen you in boots?!

I would give anything to be surrounded by the smell of oranges — this home is so lovely, and a coma-inducing BBQ sounds wonderful! Enjoy your hometown and your new endeavors in LaLaLand!

  3. Oh my gosh this skirt!! So funny I had just gotten the Teen Vogue with Alexa Chung on the cover and there’s an ad for Marc by Marc with this amazing deer print on like the first page, but I think it’s a shirt dress or something, and I was freaking out over how amazing it was! So now I’m freaking out over how amazing that skirt is!

  4. I so love that your brother is willing to take blog pictures for you! Mine would neeeeeever do that haha he thinks my blog is amusing.

Love the outfit and the lighting in these pictures is so breathtaking!

  5. Marc Jacobs prints are the best! This outfit and the photos are so cool. I grew up in Rancho Cucamonga and remember having lots of citrus groves and vineyards around…gosh, I even remember seeing guys herding sheep across Baseline. Wow. Yeah, you don’t see any of that now.

  6. That’s an amazing beautiful skirt, you look great in orange and it really brings out the print. Although I admit I didn’t realise they were impalas/deer at first glance, from a far the lighter bits looked like mushrooms to me. Sounds like you’re having a great time back home :)

  7. I am in love with every single thing in this post – the skirt, shoes, bag, dog, sunlight, familiar California feeling….can’t wait to visit again!
