lake del valle

calivintage: lake del valle

today i thought i’d share a few (ok, way more than a few) photographs of a favorite weekend getaway spot. the bay area summers are just a little too chilly for my taste, so we’ve made it a habit of driving east for about 45 minutes to lake del valle where it’s usually 10 – 20 degrees warmer and we get to enjoy real summer weather. so on saturday, we packed up the essentials: picnic blanket, towels, sunscreen, and headed out for a lazy day spent eating sammiches, drinking champagne, and floating around in the cool water.

it was also the perfect opportunity to give my new swimsuit a test drive. i’m not usually able to wear a two piece because most tops are just too flimsy for me, and i can’t actually fit a regular size range of small, medium, or large. so i was pretty excited to find this retro little number at my work that comes in a range of cup sizes and actually fits! ok, it may be a teensy bit snug, but i’ve decided to grace you all with my booty anyhow, haha! i recently read this cute article about getting a “perfect beach body” and really liked the resounding message to, “just go to the damn beach and enjoy yourself already.” so that’s just what i’m doing!

swimsuit: fräulein annie reversible top and bottoms from modcloth
sunglasses: karen walker number six
accessories: market backpack from brook farm general store and pendleton throw with leather carrier

  1. Great photos! I love the one of the tree on the hill. And that’s a cool bathing suit. We spent our weekend in Cape Cod in a similar fashion — sandwiches on the beach and enjoying the weather. I don’t like being back to reality today…

  2. i have been eyeing that same suit! it’s so cute and i love that it’s reversible. i seriously need a beach weekend and i’m totally jealous of your ability to jump in the car and get away for a bit.

p.s. you are a total babe

  3. You look so fabulous in your bathing suit!
‘just go to the damn beach and enjoy yourself already’….how much am I loving this statement:)
great post and pretty pretty photos. feeling very sorry for myself in rainy London right now, sniff:(

  4. I’m very envious that you can hop in a car and find such warm weather a short distance away. These pictures are so pretty and idyllic…they sum up summer time for me :) Also loving that bathing suit…you look fab in it and I love the retro print.

  5. Love this post and that very refreshing little article. You are absolutely right; everyone should spend less time figuring out how to “look perfect” for summer and spend more time enjoying summer! And you look lovely! xx

  6. Seriously, thank you for not being a stick figure, and having a real woman’s body! Not to mention a freakin’ beautiful one at that! :)

  7. dream girl. So smoking! and yeah we should all just enjoy the way we look now, we’ll be sorry when we’re old xxxx

  8. good for you! first, you look adorable in that style. but also, i’m actually the manager of a high-end swimwear store, but my REAL agenda is pushing a body-positive message on my customers. it’s slow-going, but i like to think i’m making a small, positive, feminist statement, one bikini at a time…. :)

  9. i have said this time and time again. but i absolutely love your blog. i adore that great suit too and i agree- us gals just need to have fun in the sun already! <3

  10. Wonderful photographs.
I love you show pictures of your getaways, ’cause I’m such a globetrotter like you. I wish we had similar landscapes here in Spain.
I’ve recently discovered your blog to a friend and I just love it. Congrats and keep on doing this, ’cause you do great.
    Have a nice day, Erin.

  11. love the article, love the suit.

heads up from a fellow 32dd wearer: j crew’s tops in 32d and x-small d-cup seem to run big in the cup this year. i got the deck striped underwire top and the ruched french top in these sizes and they were perfect for me. i also tried on a dotted one that was nice!

  12. …And “beauty is in the eye—of the Tiger™”: GENIUS!
I’m going to print that article header picture and stick it on the fridge! :D
And you lady, you look fabulous!!! You’re having fun and it shows. I would hug you if I could :D

  13. Heyyyy! That’s by my house! I’m always shocked to see city mice venturing out here, but of course it’s not so far. Also: great suit, great butt.
