mayflower supply co. fall 2014

MAY_15_2048x2048

she’s done it again! liz hull, of brooklyn-based vintage shop mayflower supply co. has just released her fall/winter 2014 collection, and it’s perfect. her inspiration?

“woody allen’s leading ladies in the 70’s like meryl streep in kramer vs kramer with effortless and oh-so-perfect long breezy hair and rosy cheeks, and diane keaton in annie hall wearing loose, oversized layers strolling around manhattan.”

the team? none other than my favorite new york leading ladies including annie strole doing makeup, photographer hannah metz, and modeling/styling by emily theobald of golly magazine. and in addition to the selection of vintage goods you see here, they’ve also introduced a selection of hand knit hats by none other than good night, day. it really doesn’t get much better than this, folks. so head on over to the shop before all of this glorious vintage sells out!

the warm bright by swords smith

i’m quite the fan of new york-based boutique swords smith. so much so, that i literally have to avoid looking at the site, for fear that i might black out and buy all of the things. but when my pal emily theobald sent me the photos from their latest look book, i could not look away. she was basically given free reign to create this beautiful november editorial, and of course the results are on point. i know i’m a “personal style blogger” and all that, but if i was rich and famous, i would try by best to convince her to be my personal stylist. so behold a sampling of looks available online.

want: marais usa cowboy mules

i’ve been going through my fall wishlist, and a new pair of shoes are at the top of my list! all summer long, i was scouring ebay and etsy for a pair of western mules that i’d dreamed up in my head. i found a few pairs that weren’t my size, and was getting pretty discouraged until this perfect pair popped up by marais usa. i love the almond-shaped toe and the low heel, and i really like the way the haircalf adds just the right touch of interest. or if you want something a little more flashy, they also come in two different snakeskin patterns and leopard print!

lauren manoogian fall 2014

for the first time in my entire life (ok, maybe since i was a little kid), i left the house in a pair of sweatpants. mind you, it wasn’t like i’d just rolled out of bed and meandered out into the street. i was wearing a pair of “fashion” sweatpants rolled at the cuffs,  styled with a pair of loafers, a soft button-up shirt, and a denim coat. even so, it was a departure from my typical style. for me, walking around in the daylight wearing glorified loungewear was akin to wearing my underwear in public. i kept glancing at the people around me, scanning for their looks of disapproval. but of course, once i realized that people weren’t shocked and horrified by my relatively boring sartorial choices, i got comfortable with the idea, and have since become obsessed with what i am now calling “elevated loungewear.”

so of course, i now dream of swathing myself in all of the clothes from the lauren manoogian fall 2014 collection. these beautiful knits are spun with luxurious alpaca blends from peru. they’re expertly constructed in cool silhouettes that would elevate even the laziest of outfits. toss on a pair of old 501s and a big roomy sweater with a statement necklace, and you’re good to go! i have been wanting a cozy shawl collar coat, and i certainly wouldn’t mind one of these. a girl can dream, can’t she?

goodnight, day fall 2014

despite the fact that the highs will be reaching near 90 degrees this week (in october!), we have been generally experiencing our first hints at cooler weather. which makes the novelty of bundling up in warm, cozy knits all the more exciting around these parts. last week, we all exclaimed how chilly it was when the morning temperatures dropped to 50 degrees, haha! and i pulled out my sweaters so i could wear them at least during the early hours of the day. so of course, it only seems fitting to share the fall 2014 lookbook from one of my favorite knitwear designers, good night, day. i’ve been following tara lynn online since probably before i even started this blog. and i’ve continued to admire not only her work, but her dedication to hand-crafting beautiful knits with sustainability and fare wages at heart. she knits every piece with fairly traded natural wools from south america. not only that, but in addition to all of the hand-knits you see here, she has published a series of knitting books, so you can try your hand at making your own!

myrtle fall 2014

the new myrtle fall 2014 look book was just released today, and i think i’m in love. this local la-based shop has an amazing and ever-expanding selection of some of my favorite indie designers, and her look books never disappoint. shot in the historic holmes-shannon house in los angeles by megan mcisaac, the latest collection features pieces by shop favorites dusen dusen, samantha pleet and wrk-shp, and also introduces many new-to-the shop brands like charlotte stone, delfina blada, diarte, j southern studio, loup, and roos vandekerchkhove.

heinui fall 2014

today we have got to talk about the new heinui fall 2014 collection. you know i love a good hand motif, so of course i went a little nuts over the amazing embroidered details and intricate hand prints. the pretty details were mixed perfectly with workwear inspired pieces in japanese chambray and utilitarian silhouettes. the standout piece for me was a certain pinafore dress made of a black cotton twill with silver embroidered hands, and a few lovely smock dresses constructed around the same theme. but more than anything, i just love the way she was able to take such rugged materials and turn them into perfectly feminine and wearable pieces.

if you aren’t familiar with the brand, heinui was launched just last year by claire pignot, a graduate of the école supérieure des arts appliqués duperré who worked with gaspard yurkievich and peter som before breaking out on her own.

jane sews fall 2014

the new jane sews fall 2014 collection is out and i think i’m in love. in fact, i think i’ve found a solution to my new warmer clime: shopping designers in the southern hemisphere! actually, even though jane sews is based in south africa, her focus is really on timeless pieces that are suitable for all seasons. and she really has done just that with her latest collection. i can easily see myself wearing any one of these looks just as they are styled, or switching them out with a pair of ankle boots and a light jacket when the temperatures finally dip.

mona fall 2014

as i slowly begin to pull out my fall wardrobe, i’ve been looking to some of my favorite designers for a few bit of inspiration. and the new mona fall 2014 collection, titled “lovers in lisbon” is right up my alley. in contrast to her sugary sweet spring collection, designer moriah hemed has taken a decidedly more mature turn this season with elegantly patterned prints and a cool blue palette. of the collection, she says:

during my honey moon in portugal back in 2010, i took special attention in the unique buildings of lisbon. they took my breath away, all covered with fascinating painted tiles, telling stories in many different colors. one image that didn’t leave my mind ever since is of a black yorkshire sitting at the edge of an amazing blue and white window on a gloomy day. so this collection is all about lovers in love holding hands, making plans and walking through colorful streets made of dreams.”

she still has plenty of dreamy signature frocks, but i’m also enjoying some of her more structured pieces as well. so much so, that i’m actually have a hard time picking a favorite from the bunch! you can shop the collection on her site now.

isabel wilson fall 2014

isabel wilson first caught my attention last season with a beautiful spring collection filled with fresh, bright colors and trippy water prints. with a background in textiles, it’s no wonder that she has a serious talent for design. and if last season was all about the prints, then her fall 2014 collection is all about texture. of the collection, she says she focused more on complex knitted structures and kept the color palate very simple. the result is a beautiful collection filled with luxurious wool coats, thick knits, textured prints, and the most adorable fringed crop top that i need in my life like right now. that paired with an easy color palette of black, grey, and navy and just the perfect hints of a bold, dark red, are really making me excited for when the temperatures finally drop!
