front row shop

i know i’m probably the last person on earth to have heard of them, but ever since i discovered online retailer frontrowshop, i’ve been having a bit of a love affair. i keep browsing through the new arrivals and scrolling through the archives, tempting myself with all of their cool clothes. my internal monologue turns into the voice of doge as i find myself thinking, “wow. so fashion.” and then add everything to my favorites list.

these are few of my current favorite items (i have the denim dress below and this pair of white wide leg jeans; and that dusty pink trench below is in two parts so you can wear it as a cropped jacket!!!), but my picks aren’t really representative of the entire scope of their selection. they have a lot more statement pieces and on-trend styles, i’m just a sucker for minimalist looks these days.

artists and fleas los angeles!

Artists & Fleas LA

i remember years back when i first started my blog, i went on a trip to new york during fashion week with weardrobe (extra points if you remember that site!). part of our excursion involved touring around town, and on one such outing, we all stopped in at artists & fleas in williamsburg. i still remember it clear as day because i passed on a really cute bracelet and still regret that i didn’t buy it!

fast forward several years and the iconic handmade market is making it’s way to the west coast every third weekend in downtown la. i love markets like this because it gives me a chance to discover new local vendors and support the community of makers and sellers where i live. i’m particularly excited because my new pal toni of fairseason will be there selling rad vintage jumpsuits and overalls and other cool things. and a little birdie told me that kira kids will be having a sample sale there as well!

see the full list of vendors here. june 21 & 22, 11am – 6pm at 647 mateo street in downtown la.

and some fun travel items from their latest go explore collection:

want: rennes tank top

alexei4_grande

i came across this perfect little crossback top by rennes, and now i can’t stop thinking about it! i’m pretty sure that there’s enough coverage in the back that i can get away with wearing a bra underneath. and it’s cropped, but not so much that i have to worry about underboob. i also think it would add a bit of interest as a layering piece over a really simple dress. it’s just so perfect in every way i want it right now omg! you know the feeling.

i actually kinda love everything they’ve got in the shop right now. everything is designed by julia okun in her boston design studio, and either hand-sewn or produced locally in massachusetts.

want: candela millicent dress

3

i first saw this dress at the candela spring 2014 presentation back in september. and i kid you not, i haven’t been able to get it out of my mind since. what’s more is that i had to go and check the candela site only to discover that it’s now on sale. sitting there, taunting and teasing me in all of it’s impractical glory, begging for a reason to be bought. i try to imagine just hanging it on my wall, tossing it on to lounge around the house on lazy afternoons, or wearing it while i frolic in a field of flowers in the hazy setting sunlight. a girl can dream, can’t she?

for the new dad

i’ve been buying father’s day gifts for my dad since i was a little kid, but this year there’s a new dad to celebrate! it’s so funny to now add the title of dad to my partner brendan. i want him to feel special for his first father’s day, especially because he’s hardly had a moment to himself between work, finishing grad school, and taking care of our new little baby dude. so when east dane asked me if i’d like to pull together a father’s day gift guide, i knew right away that it’d be dedicated to brendan and all of those first time dads out there who need a special treat.

oliver people’s gregory sunglasses – he’s been meaning to get a cool pair of sunglasses for ages, but never seems to wanna bite the bullet when we’re out shopping!

gitman vintage tiger tiger shirt – it’s always good to have a little bit of fun with your clothes after work and on the weekends. i know brendan would like the subtle, yet playful design on this cool short-sleeve shirt.

the golden age of dc comics – brendan is a serious comic book nerd. i know he’s more of a marvel man, but i think he’d have fun flipping through this coffee table book.

sperry topsider classic boat shoes – just the other day, brendan was commenting that he wore through his favorite top siders. sometimes a practical gift is the best kind.

form function form button stud timex minute man watch – watches are by far my best stand-by when it comes to giving brendan a gift. this man loves his watches and has a box full of different straps to switch out to change their look.

scotch & soda striped swim trunks – these would go great along with a little poolside date.

brooks b17 saddle – we’ve gone on countless bike tours together over the years. even though we don’t get to ride bikes nearly as much as we used to, i think this would be a nice, sentimental gift.

herschel supply co. backpack – don’t make daddy carry around a silly diaper bag! this backpack is a way better option for both parents, don’t you think?

everlane denim & poplin

the latest selection from everlane could not have come at a better time. i’ve been obsessed with really sturdy fabrics like cotton and denim and have pretty much been wearing white, navy, and denim almost every day this spring. it’s a clean palette, it’s practical, and it feels very chic, especially when you’re a new mom trying to pull yourself together and look presentable. i already have the box shirt in white and navy, but these new sleeveless and short sleeve shirts are going to be perfect as the heat of the summer sets in. and i’m pretty sure i need the shirtdress in all three colors. it’s like they say, “every summer outfit you want is here.”

cardigan sample sale!

it just so happens to be perfect sweater weather today in la, which is perfectly fitting because cardigan is currently having an online sample sale! i love it when brands do this because i always feel like i’m missing out when i hear about some awesome sample sale in new york. if you head on over to the site now through may 26, you’ll get 40% off everything in the shop using code SALEAWAY. now i just need to control myself because i want all of the sweaters! (and dresses and tops and pants.)

want: the denim tee

it’s one of those items that feels like it should already be in my closet. one of those basics that you never pick up because it’s always around– until you’re actually looking for it. they pop-up in stores now and then. i remember last spring, i saw a simple denim shift dress at madewell, but it sold out before i was able to snag one. i saw one not too long ago in a boutique, but the price point was a little too high for me. i’ve had the above image in my inspiration folder for the last two years. it’s the perfect, lightweight chambray tee that would be so good for these frequent los angeles heat waves. and i also wouldn’t mind one in a slightly more substantial denim like the photo below. they’re simple enough that i should probably just try to find an easy pattern and sew one up some afternoon. but maybe there’s something good floating out around there that i just haven’t found yet.

any leads i should know about?
