samantha pleet fall 2014

not sure about you, but i’ve been catching glimpses of the new samantha pleet fall 2014 collection and film over the past several weeks on social media, eagerly anticipating their release. the film will be screening tonight in nyc, and while i can’t be there, i have a little preview of the collection along with some stills to tide me over. once again, samantha has pulled inspiration from historical references, this time inspired by the visions of joan of arc. and while the imagery is stunning, and i’m sure the film is going to be amazing, let’s not forget the clothes! there’s a mix of well-made frocks and outerwear along with intricately embroidered motifs, and beautiful hand-made prints.

karen walker fall 2014

last season was my first opportunity to attend a karen walker show and i just about died. she’s long been a favorite, and while i wasn’t able to make it to nyfw this time around, i still had plenty of fun flipping through the looks. this season, the new zealand-based designer was inspired by suffragettes, creating a fun and rebellious collection of cool clothes (and sunglasses). she incorporated a striking broken-heart, hand, and hammer print, featured on a few cool dresses and in little brooch pins. and there were cheeky little phrases scattered about. i enjoyed the oversized silhouettes with little nods to menswear and a bit of victoriana thrown into the mix. definitely makes me wish i was the karen walker girl.

band of outsiders fall 2014

i’ve long been a fan of band of outsiders, but this season really caught my eye. mostly because there were about 500 pictures from the presentation plastered all over my instagram feed, but that’s definitely not a bad thing (even if it did make me a little bummed that i had to skip out on nyfw this season)! the brand focuses on wearable separates, of which there were plenty this season. everything looked so warm and cozy, but it was far from simple or boring. the designer was inspired by lee miller, man ray, and elsa schiaparelli as you could see in the cool tromp l’oeil details and illustrated backdrop. definitely a collection i wouldn’t mind getting my hands on this fall.

charlotte taylor fall 2013

it’s been a little while since i’ve written about charlotte taylor, but their latest fall 2013 collection is too good not to mention! the collection, titled “lost and found,” was inspired by discarded toys and forgotten childhood fantasies of circus performances. a sort of dreamy world filled with shadows and spirits. the concept could get a little creepy, but the clothes are anything but. there are plenty of whimsical prints and warm separates perfect for layering. and you know i love a good pinafore, so of course i can’t get over those ram print mini dresses!

ilana kohn fall 2013

since i’m on a bit of a cool basics kick, today i thought i would share the new ilana kohn fall 2013 collection. i don’t think i’ve ever written about her before, but i have recently become pretty smitten with this nyc-based designer and her very laid-back vibes. this season, you’ll find a set of cool silhouettes in beautiful graphic prints all constructed of soft and sturdy cotton, silk, and modal right in nyc. i am particularly in love with the cute pant sets and jumpsuits with their effortless ease. and lately, i’ve been a sucker for midi lengths. i mean, i know it’s a new york brand, but i feel like these looks would work so well in la. just throw on a pair of ankle boots and sunglasses and you’re good to go.

tradlands fall 2013

since i shared a little discount with you yesterday, i thought i might as well show you the new tradlands fall 2013 lookbook. this sf-based shirting company was created by sadie roberts with the goal of creating well-constructed shirts using quality fabrics and tailoring them for a woman’s body. and i can attest to the fact that they really do fit! i also love that everything is done in san francisco, from the design to the manufacturing, so when you purchase one of these shirts, you are buying a truly american made piece that you’ll keep in your closet for years to come.

mona fall 2013

just in time for halloween, mona has released her fall 2013 collection, inspired by the perfect combination of creepy and cute. titled “glowing in the dark,” designer moriah said,

“i looked for the meeting point of tim burtons’ corpse bride, beetle juice, and sweeney todd with mona’s cute collars and feminine silhouettes. i wanted to create a horror fantasy fairy tale sort of scene and to take the mona customer on a new adventure with an edgier look and feel.”

and she certainly achieved her goal with a sinister yet sweet collection of cute pinafores and collared dresses in dark prints with cool details. and while the lookbook and inspiration may be a bit darker than her usual selection, each individual piece is still just as diverse and can easily be styled a number of different ways throughout fall and beyond.

outfit: fall feelings

the weather isn’t exactly chilly in los angeles, but some days have been cool enough to wear pseudo-fall outfits like this one without breaking a sweat. i’m still so used to the frigid san francisco air that it’s hard not to want to wear long sleeves and pretty new fall clothes every day (not that i’m complaining)! i’m particularly in love with this cute little jumper i picked up at the loved one‘s brick-and-mortar shop in pasadena over the weekend, especially because the empire waist and full skirt are able to accommodate my 26 week bump. that’s right, i’m almost six months along. the third trimester. the home stretch, if you will. it’s been harder than i anticipated to get outfit photos lately, but i did shoot a cute series of maternity outfits for refinery29 that should be coming out any day now, so i promise to share once it’s up!

now onto the real hard-hitting stuff: shoes! i fell in love with this pretty pair of mary janes the moment they popped up on the golden ponies instagram feed. a few conversations later and they were on their way from mexico with the promise that i would share you all on a very exclusive discount to celebrate this new collection of shoes, a collaboration between two creative forces, chica de canela and golden ponies shoes! if you like golden ponies, then i promise you will love this limited edition collection. so without further adieu…

leah goren fall 2013

it’s been a long while since i posted about leah goren, so today i thought i’d share a few photos of some of her latest designs. i first discovered leah’s cat dress a couple of years back and it has since been in high rotation in my closet. i am now obsessed with her girl faces dress and am trying to decide if i should order one knowing that i’ll only temporarily be this size. at least she has all of these pretty pictures for me to drool over while i try to make a decision!

colenimo fall 2013

the colenimo fall 2013 collection was inspired by kay petre, a record-breaking motor racing pioneer from 1930’s britain. the inspiration might be a bit specific, but the collection is diverse, including some amazing outerwear like waxed “british millerain” cotton jackets and coats, cotton corduroy over-coats with vintage lining, shetland wool jackets with shearling collars and an ultra soft lamb nappa leather racing jacket. i’ve always loved designer aya’s knack for interesting shapes, particularly in her coats, so this selection has got me swooning. she also included tons of amazing dresses and separates in cotton, silk, angora, and mohair. just the types of materials i’d love to be wearing when the weather gets chilly outside!
