swedish hasbeens spring 2011

swedish hasbeens spring 2011

i’m sure you’ve all been hearing about the new collaboration between swedish hasbeens and h&m. when i saw the articles floating around, i was happy to hear that they’d be offering their shoes at a more affordable price point, but mostly, i was interested to see what styles they’d be rolling out on their regular line this spring. and while i was browsing the site for a pair of jodhpurs, i discovered that they’ve already started releasing their spring 2011 collection. in addition to several new vintage-inspired 1930’s styles, they have also added new color ways to their more classic models. i love them all so much, i can’t decide which pair i want the most.

little things

calivintage: mendocino part two

today i just wanted to mention a few little changes here at calivintage. i never made an official announcement, but i’m sure most of you noticed that i changed the layout a few months back. it was the first step in the process of moving my blog from blogspot to a self-hosted wordpress site. i won’t bore you with all of the technical details, but i will say that it’s a switch that i am so happy to have finally made and i’m really enjoying getting comfortable at my new home here on the web.

what does this mean for you? you should still be getting all of my posts in your reader because my feed hasn’t changed, but calivintage now lives at it’s own domain, calivintage.com. you don’t have to update your links or bookmarks, but if you do visit the old blogspot site, you’ll reach a redirect page. it will take you to the new site, but if you want to avoid that extra step, you can change your bookmarks or links to calivintage.com. another really nice change is that i will now be able to reply to your comments directly, a feature that i have always wanted to have! yay!

and with all transitions like this, sometimes things go wrong, so please let me know if you’re having any issues viewing my blog, getting my feed, commenting on the new site, or anything else! you can leave a comment below or email me at erin@calivintage.com.

friday favorites

i must admit, i’m starting to fret a bit about my upcoming trip to new york fashion week, so i’ve been paying extra attenting to all of my favorite blogs to find inspiration: vanessa jackman, cafe mode, street peeper, jen loves kev, gargyle blog, and team peter stigter.

yeye! style blog, the time is grey, the fashionist, and stockholmstreetstyle. and as always, you can follow my tumblr to view a feed of everything that catches my eye around the web.

dollar days

calivintage: dollar days

i don’t usually post pictures from these types of outings, mostly because i usually forget to bring my camera.  and if i do bring it, i usually forget to take pictures.  such is life. but on this particular occasion, i did get a few shots of the day.  to explain, the local race track where i live hosts dollar days on sundays. it’s $1 entry, $1 beer, and $1 hot dogs all day long.  what can i say? i’m a cheap date.  cast in point: above you can find me showing off my winnings. the best part is that i got that excited about winning 24 bucks.

other highlights of the day include the teeny tiny olive sword in the bloody mary’s, a shot of my two winner horses that scored me my $24, and the group shot (of course the ladies are all wearing hats!). we were snapping pictures and a couple came up and asked us if we wanted a group shot. gotta love those mugs.

mendocino part two

calivintage: mendocino part two

after exploring the cliffs at sunset on our first day in mendocino, we headed over to the local grocery shop to stock up on supplies for the evening: champagne, food, champagne, dessert, and more champagne.  then we made our way back to the cabin to drink said champagne in the hot tub and generally enjoy the serenity. it was one of those evenings that i won’t soon forget and i’m very happy that it worked out so nicely.

the next morning, we woke up bright and early with high spirits despite our pounding headaches.  blame the champagne.  we headed over to a local spot and got breakfast overlooking the ocean. mimosa required. then we explored another epic cliff and snapped some pictures. as you can see, we got a bit carried away since the views were so beautiful and the day was so bright and shiny! it was so nice out that we decided to take highway one all the way back home, which is the scenic route that winds along the california coastline.  it brought back memories, since the last time i had seen that portion of the coast, was when we went on a bike tour a couple years back from arcata to bodega bay.

we stopped along the way at various little towns. some that we’d visited before, some that we’d never explored. but the rest of the way, i left the camera tucked in the car, so i guess those parts will have to live in memories!

mendocino part one

calivintage: mendocino part one

hello! i’m back from my long birthday weekend! but before i go on and on about what i’ve been up to for the past four days, i want to take a moment to thank you all so so so much for your lovely birthday wishes. it made me feel extra special, and i really appreciate it!

anyway, as promised, we took lots of pictures of our weekend adventures. this set is from our first day in mendocino. we drove for about three hours through beautiful country roads on a particularly pleasant and sunny day. when we arrived in mendocino, we checked in to our cabin (complete with our own private hot tub), but since there were still some daylight left, we headed out to some cliffs overlooking the ocean to snap some pictures and catch the sunset.

i opted to wear an easy outfit consisting of this adorable dear creatures shift dress that i had wanted last spring when it came out, but failed to pick up when it was still available.  lucky for me, my pal lindsay just so happened to have said dress, and gladly passed it on to me! it makes me feel a bit like a girl scout, which seemed like the appropriate attire for a day spent outdoors. and for the perfect coincidence of the day, i happened to receive this beautiful tote bag from kate spade in the mail right on my birthday! just the thing for a weekend away.

dress: dear creatures, gift from lindsay
coat: post grad coat from modcloth
tights: tabio 150 denier ribbed tights
shoes: vintage salvatore ferragamo bow flats
sunglasses: karen walker
tote: kate spade daycation bon shopper

the loved one

a while back, i posted about a kickstarter project started by hannah (of hannah and landon) and her partner elvia. they were seeking out funding for their upcoming vintage-inspired lingerie line, the loved one. needless to say, the project was a success, so i thought it would only be fitting to post a follow-up and share the collection with you, which is available for pre-sale right now!

i’m smitten with each and every piece, and with such reasonable prices, i might have to go and buy them all! though i will say my favorites are the agony of love and sin in the suburbs.
