tradlands summer shirts

i know a lot of people are talking about “back to school” and “pre-fall,” but out here in southern california, we’re still in the thick of summer. in fact, i’m still stocking up on summer pieces like the new women’s shirting by one of my favorite brands, tradlands. this season, design duo sadie and jeremy released a collection of short sleeved shirts in soft cotton plaids and stripes, and the most perfect white linen. along with a selection of classic button-ups that will always have a perfect place in any wardrobe.

and i know i’ve talked about this brand before, but i can’t tell you how highly i recommend them! they are hands down the best menswear-inspired button-up shirts i have ever worn. they are specifically designed with a women’s body in mind, and as a rather busty gal myself, i can attest to the perfect fit, even if you usually find yourself popping buttons on all of your tops! not only that, but each shirt is constructed using quality materials right here in the united states.

olive summer 2015

school’s out for summer! and despite the ridiculously warm temperatures, summer has always been my favorite season. it probably has something to do with the aforementioned lack of school when i was a kid, and the fact that i grew up in sunny southern california. so of course, it’s an exciting time when the resort and summer collections come out, like olive summer 2015. shop owner laura uhlir teamed up with the talented jackie lee young for her latest lookbook with an exploration of “shifting scale, sliding perspective, and the interplay between two forms.” they were inspired by “guy bourdin’s early 70s work and the visual play between the 90s supermodel trinity: naomi campbell, linda evangelista, and christy turlington. the juxtaposition of height and slight presented the perfect opportunity to toy with the eye.”

the result is stunning. not only is it a treat for the eye, but olive is serving up some really awesome summer style from some of my favorite independent designers like samantha pleet, shop evens, and more.

the summer is hot and i can already tell that i’ll be living in really simple, breezy dresses all season long. and if there’s one designer who understands my needs, it’s los angeles-based brand bon george. the summer collection is filled with lots flirty dresses and matching sets in cool colors that are perfect to wear on hot days and warm nights. and of course, they are all the more appealing because everything is constructed using vintage deadstock fabrics right in the heart of downtown l.a. with prices that won’t break the bank. it’s pretty much everything you could ask for in a collection all wrapped up into one. they only make a limited number of each piece, so you better get in your pre-order before they sell out!

nadinoo – the good life

british designer nadia izruna has just released her latest collection for nadinoo! titled the good life, her latest selection was inspired by the english countryside with silhouettes crafted for everyday wear and ease of movement, and a healthy dose of prints designed in collaboration with children’s illustrator genevieve godbout, all printed on 100% cotton cloth by a small english print house. what i love about the collection is that it still retains the whimsical spirit that we’ve come to expect from nadinoo, but without sacrificing practicality. so it was no surprise when nadia revealed that part of her focus on this collection was about creating the perfect wardrobe for a working mother (like herself) who wants to look her best while running around after her little ones.

if you’re not familiar with the brand, nadinoo is a small slow clothing brand based in england that was founded in 2009 with all of the garments being designed and handmade in limited runs with a focus on quality and craftsmanship. i own a few of her pieces from previous collections, and they have become prized possessions in my wardrobe.

yestadt millinery spring 2015

if you hadn’t noticed, i’ve become a little obsessed with hats lately. i’d been on a bit of a hat hiatus for the past couple of years, but i’ve rediscovered them this season and have been searching high and low for a few new pieces to add to my collection so that i don’t end up wearing the same hat every single day. which led me to the yestadt millinery spring 2015 collection. what i like about their selection is that they have really pristine classics, but they also like to play around a little bit. if you’re ever looking to take a risk, you can have fun with a bright red baseball cap that ties in a big bow at the back, or you can rock some serious paddington bear vibes in their fisherman hat. either way, you’ll be sure to stand out.

language of the birds spring 2015

against my better judgement, i’m heading out to palm springs again this weekend (kinda hard to resist when you live about 50 minutes away)! so of course, i’ve got resort vibes on my mind. and i can’t think of anything better to wear than the new capsule collection by honolulu-based language of the birds. designer tsia carson was inspired by traditional hawaiian silhouettes like the holomu’u, mu’umu’u and kappogis and modernized them with beautiful custom textile designs by clothing designer and store owner of beklina, lina rennell, and textile designer and critic at risd, gina gregorio. the result is a beautiful collection filled with interesting details, fresh colors, and incredibly wearable designs. not only that, but they believe in ethical business practices and embrace transparency in the supply chain. of the collection, they state:

every item is made in the usa using small independently run factories and sustainable, eco-friendly production processes. the fabrics are silk screened by hand in rhode island using a traditional water based vat dye method. they are cut and sewn in nyc’s garment district in a small factory run by a lovely woman named theresa. the integrity of the craftsmanship creates a fabric with a beautiful hand, superior quality and long lasting construction that will endure for decades rather than years. language of the birds could be called old fashioned with their emphasis on supporting american manufacturing, but they believe you should buy something you love and be able to wear it forever.

whit spring 2015

i’ve skipped out on the last couple seasons of nyfw, so it was a nice little treat to head out to palm springs this weekend for a special presentation of the whit spring 2015 collection. coincidentally, all of the looks were giving off major resort vibes. the girls literally could have walked right off the runway and fit right in with our surroundings at the parker hotel. and even though i’ve toned down my own personal style quite a bit the last couple of years, i still really love a good print for vacation weekends, or fancy events. so the bold prints and patterns definitely caught my eye and got me thinking about how i’m long overdue for a little getaway myself!

family affairs spring 2015

back in september, i posted a little preview, but now the full family affairs spring 2015 collection is available for purchase, and i am swooning over nina’s cute prints and fun silhouettes. i am especially in love with the lookbook, shot by one of my favorite photographers, amber byrne mahoney. the collection, titled ti amo, is inspired by “eating peaches in the hammock, falling in love like a teenager, huge agave plants in elba, white heat on the autostrada, being the first person at the bakery, and grandma’s white sheets in the mediterranean sun.” i think my favorite is the amazing river crystal jumpsuit, but i’m also pretty enamored with the ti amo frenchie crop top!

isabel wilson spring 2015

the new isabel wilson spring 2015 collection is all kinds of dreamy! i love the interesting color scheme: grass greens, bright red and coral, with little pops of light and navy blue all shot against a dreamy pastoral backdrop. it’s making me feel like riding my bike to the park for a picnic to enjoy these warm spring days. and with all of her pieces designed and sewn in new york, i don’t think i will be able to resist picking up a pair of those grass print pants!

crescioni spring 2015

the weather is already warm here in my little corner of southern califonia, so i’ve been scramblng to get a handle on my summer style. and the lookbook for los angeles-based designer crescioni is a pretty darn good start. made using traditional craft techniques inspired by the spirit of the American west, these cool leather and brass statement jewels and accessories are perfect for pairing with breezy linen dresses andbig straw hats.
