i’m a pinterest ambassador!

calivintage_0524-main

i think i mentioned it in a few places on social media, but it always feels more official when i make an announcement on my blog. so if you hadn’t gathered from the title, i’m a pinterest ambassador! the brand has just started the program, so it’s the first time that they’re delving into local events, and i’m super excited to be involved. basically, i’ll be hosting a series of #pinmeetup gatherings in the los angeles area over the course of the next year. and i’ve pretty much got carte blanche when it comes to what we do! the first event is all planned-out, but the flyer isn’t ready yet, so i’ll just tease you a little bit: we’ll be meeting at a very cool shop in silverlake for sips and snacks, vintage shopping, and two really awesome diy workshops to be announced! the whole setting will be appropriately pinterest-worthy, and i’m so excited to share more in the coming weeks.

i’ve already got a few more events in the works for the near-future, so i promise to keep you up-to-date on all of my pinterest goings-on! in the meantime, i’ll be sharing a few posts about how i use pinterest as a blogger, and will be sure to post lots of pretty pictures and recaps of all our events for those of you who can’t make it out. and don’t forget to check the pinterest events page to see if any events are headed your way, too!

shop my closet at twice!

calivintagetwice

my pop up shop at twice just launched! go go go!

the collection features a huge selection of gently used items from my personal wardrobe including designer, boutique, and high street brands. it was a little hard to let them go, but it was a relief to free up some space in my closets. and i’m happy to be passing them along to someone who might appreciate them more than i did. clothes are meant to be worn, not hoarded away! i’m sharing a quick screengrab, but there’s tons more in the shop with more going up throughout the week, so you really should head on over and take a look!

if you’re not familiar with the twice, it’s like a hybrid between traditional online retailers like amazon and peer-to-peer marketplaces like ebay. if you’re cleaning out your closet, simply request a free selling kit or label, fill it up, and ship it to twice. they make you an offer as soon as they get your package, and you can get paid instantly. from there, they list your items for sale. or you can just skip to the fun part and shop the calivintage pop-up filled with gently used boutique, designer, and high street pieces from my personal wardrobe, including all of the clothing and accessories you see in this post!

shinola

no, i didn’t go to detroit to visit the shinola factory in advance of our event tomorrow night, but they did kindly send me a ton of great pictures so i could get a better look at the workmanship that goes into their beautiful handmade watches. i’d actually been lusting after one of their classic runwell watches well before they got in touch and asked me to host their event. i’d eyed them at steven alan and had been thinking about getting one for brendan. but of course, i wouldn’t mind getting one for myself, too!

besides their really beautiful designs, i love the fact that they are all handmade right in detroit. their production line is one of the most modern in the world, and adheres to swiss quality standards. everything is done by hand, from building their own movements, to the final assembly. their watch straps and leather goods come from horween of chicago, one of america’s oldest tanneries, in continuous operation since 1905. they’re one of the last tanneries in america still undertaking the full production process in-house, from raw unprocessed hides to fully finished leather in a process that is impressively labor-intensive. their craftspeople are incredibly skilled and proud of their work, and it’s exciting to be able to buy such a well-made watch, and to support such an awesome detroit-made company. honestly, there’s so much that goes into the entire process, that you really should head to their site to read more about them, because i can hardly do them justice in this little blog post.

and of course, if you’re in new york, i would love it if you could come out to the event i’m hosting at the shinola flagship store tomorrow night from 7:30 – 9:00pm! we’ll be unveiling the american vintage collection by scout la, and fun times will be had by all.

behind the lens: a visit to scout la

in advance of the event i’ll be hosting at the shinola flagship store in nyc this wednesday, i decided to make my way to los angeles for a quick trip to scout vintage boutique. the owner, joey grana, has pulled together an amazing collection of vintage pieces by american designers for the event. he’s got impeccable taste, as you can see by the photos. and of course, i was blown away by the selection of vintage designer pieces alongside his own small in-house collection, and a tasteful selection of jewelry. i even nabbed a cute new vintage top which i may or may not be wearing to the event!

if you’re in nyc, be sure to come to the event from 7:30 – 9:00pm at the shinola store in tribeca to shop the american vintage collection and to browse some seriously beautiful, detroit-made watches.

outfit: calivintage + bon george made in la

you may remember a few weeks back, i wrote about the launch of bon george, an la-based clothing company focused on socially and environmentally conscious practices. they’ve just started a blog series spotlighting local people, and asked me a few interview questions which you can read right here. i got to pick out a piece from their inaugural collection, which i may have already worn too many times to mention… it’s made with salvaged vintage rayon in a limited edition run right here in los angeles. i love the faded red color, the button-front, and the perfect longer length. it’s already become a key piece for my summer wardrobe to pair with a simple t-shirts on hot summer days.

head on over to the bon george blog to read my interview!

maternity style: a holiday outfit with r29

things have mostly been super casual around here, what with being over 38 weeks pregnant and about to pop at any moment! and while i’m not gonna get crazy at the holiday parties this year, it’s still fun to get dressed up and throw back a few glasses of sparkling apple cider. i pulled together this holiday outfit for my latest post up on refinery29 my stylist last month, but today i’m laying low and hanging out in pajamas. i was hoping to be with family for the usual traditions: steaming hot home made tamales with rice and potato salad. and to watch my cousins unwrap presents around the christmas tree with my family all around. but this year they all contracted a nasty virus, so i opted to keep the baby safe and stay at home. but i did end up deciding last-minute to cook my own feast, and weathered the christmas-eve crowds to gather the necessary ingredients for my own small batch of tamales. so we’re not completely stranded this year.

and now it’s just the waiting game… holidays are so much more fun with little ones around. when will this baby dude get here so we can celebrate together?!

maternity style: weekend wear

it’s been a little while since i’ve shared an outfit post, so today i thought i’d share a simple weekend outfit i put together for my latest post on refinery29 my stylist. being so far along in my pregnancy means that things have taken a pretty casual turn around here. last weekend, i went out and got a bunch of really comfy basics like sweater dresses and knit skirts in hopes that they’ll hold me over these last few weeks. up until this point, i haven’t had much need for a sweater or a coat in los angeles, but we’re finally getting cool enough temperatures to add just a few layers to our outfits, so i took the opportunity to finally wear this sf-made coat by poppy von frolich. it was handmade in san francisco using sturdy carhart cotton and it is now one of my prized possessions.

outfit: topshop x nordstrom

i just got back from a very quick weekend trip to san francisco and probably the last trip i will take for some months now that the baby is so close to being here! it was a nice opportunity to visit with a few of my bay area friends and of course, i had a blast hosting an event to celebrate the launch of topshop x nordstrom at the san francisco center. i’ve long been a fan of topshop and have spent many hours browsing through their online shop admiring their cool uk offerings, but i’d never had an opportunity to actually see the clothes in real life here on the west coast, so it’s pretty exciting to see that the retailer has finally expanded into the u.s. market with these cool shop-in-shops as a new permanent fixture in nordstrom department stores and online. and i finally got to try on a few pieces for size, and am drooling over their fall offerings, lots of fuzzy sweaters and soft oversized coats!
