new year’s resolutions!

i’m gonna be honest with you: i’m kinda like the grinch of new year’s.  as in, i usually think new year’s resolutions are for suckers, and i always refuse to make any.  but i have decided to lighten up and have some fun participating in the ritual this year.  so in honor of the season, i present you with two different new year’s related posts:
1. the talented and beautiful amanda of here’s looking at me kid has been doing a really amazing guest series on new year’s resolutions this week.  i’m a huge fan of her blog, so when she asked me to participate, i was delighted to contribute! for my post, she asked me if i could share some of my tips for sprucing up outfits with accessories like hats, scarves, and sunglasses.  i had a lot of fun going back through my archives and finding examples of how i’ve done it in the past!  if this is something you’re looking to work on this year, go check it out!  if not, she also has a ton more awesome suggestions from some really great bloggers, so it’s definitely worth a look.
2. this year, me and the modcloth blog team decided to embark on a major style resolution project.  each of us chose three style objectives for the year that we’d like to accomplish, and for the next six months, we’re going to write follow-up posts to share our progress.  to read all of our resolutions, and to chime in on our punishments should we fail, go check it out!

a few things

just popping in to give a little shout out to a couple of features that have recently gone up.  the ann taylor blog is doing a series titled ‘the twelve tumblrs of blogmas,’ and the calivintage tumblr was one of their recommendations!  i’m a huge fan of ann taylor, so i was delighted to have been chosen.

also, i have a little holiday wishlist up on the feast, an online city guide run by nbc.  i chose a handful of my favorite items available at san francisco shops.  definitely check it out if you’re curious to see some of the items on my holiday wishlist this year!

some exciting news!

today is a special day because i have some exciting news to share with you: i am now officially a modcloth blog writer! that’s right, in addition to writing calivintage, i am working full-time as a member of the modcloth staff. and you have no idea how anxious i’ve been waiting for today to finally make the announcement! basically, it’s my dream job and i feel so incredibly fortunate to have teamed up with such a cool company.

in honor of the occasion, there is a little interview with me over at the modcloth blog. and of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me either here on my blog or over in the comments section at modcloth and i will be sure to answer you.

but basically, things around calivintage are going to be pretty much the same. i’ll still be doing the usual lineup of outfit posts, inspiration, cycle chic, and street styles. i’ll still have sponsors, though i will be having fewer of them, and obviously modcloth will no longer be one of them.  my work at modcloth is going to be separate from my work at calivintage, so i urge you to check out the modcloth blog to see what fun stuff i’ll be posting there, but you can still expect to find me here as per usual!

a little project…

well, i survived the red eye flight, and i am writing this post, bleary-eyed, from my hotel room in new york. and i’m excited to finally tell you what my trip is all about! charlotte russe was kind enough to invite me to participate in a blogger styling challenge that will be streaming live on the web at 7pm e.s.t. tonight! you can click here to watch the event and rsvp to be part of the panel of judges to vote for the winner of the challenge!

obviously, i would love to have your support in watching the video tonight at 7pm p.s.t and casting your votes! wish me luck!

calivintage in chic magazine

just stopping in on a lazy sunday afternoon to share with you a little feature! the swedish magazine, chic, has written a little blurb about me in their latest issue! i was very pleased to receive my copy in the mail yesterday and it was fun flipping through the pages to see what it was all about. it seems similar to the types of magazines you might read about celebrity fashion while waiting in the line at the grocery store, and i was surprised to see that there were lots of features about american television and movie stars.

anyway, i can’t read swedish, but one of my lovely readers gave me a rough translation of what it says, which is basically that i write a blog with a mix of vintage and modern styles.

calivintage on ifb

if you’re a member of independent fashion bloggers, then you may have seen that i was recently nominated by members of the community for the blogger spotlight of the week! i am flattered and honored by all of the nominations and i really appreciate the support i receive from fellow bloggers and readers! so thank you very much! and to check out the interview, click here!

i also want to give a shout out to the folks over at wonderwool for posting this interview with me on their site. we actually connected through ifb as well. really quite nice!

calivintage in asterisk magazine

calivintage in asterisk magazine

today i wanted to take a moment to show you one of my most recent features in the new san francisco lifestyle magazine, asterisk. fyi: when you click the link, you wont see my photo right away; you’ll have to change to the next page to get there. anyway, i was contacted by jt over at the sf style about the feature a while back, and i gladly met up with him and dyanna for a fun little shoot in a local bookshop in russian hill. i actually did a post with some of the outtakes from the shoot, which can be found here. you’ll also notice that he also contacted some of the other awesome blogger ladies currently residing in the bay area, and i have to say, i am delighted to be featured with such a dynamic crew of great people. so check it out!

and if you live in the bay area, there are print copies available in many local bookshops. i still haven’t snagged a copy for myself, but here is a list of places where you can find it.
