outfit: win a jumpsuit from lindsay robinson!

calivintage x robinson jumpsuit

a couple of years ago, i found this really incredible pair of vintage coveralls. i loved them. i wore them a ton. and then, in some sort of kondo-induced blackout, i sold them. mistakes were made. i always regretted it.

fast forward a couple of years and i have finally found the perfect replacement: the beryl jumpsuit by san francisco-based designer lindsay robinson. she is a textile designer with a background in traditional dyeing and weaving, so you already know that i’m going to tell you that’s it’s made of an amazing 100% cotton washed japanese twill that you will love. these days, textiles are one of the first things i look at when picking out my clothes. i need something that is sturdy and washable, but still comfortable and easy to wear. this jumpsuit ticks all those boxes, in addition to being a great option for new moms because it’s a one piece that you can just literally throw on without another thought, and it’s got a button front so you can breastfeed on the sly. i went for the natural fabric, but it also comes in a blush pink and a stunning indigo blue. oh, and did i mention they’re made in california? interested?

we’re giving away a beryl jumpsuit to one lucky winner! simple head on over to this instagram post to enter!

outfit: esby pre-fall

calivintage - esby apparel pre-fall

despite the incredibly hot and humid weather we’ve been having lately, i’m still kind of grasping-on to these last few days of summer. luckily for me, the esby apparel pre-fall collection is helping me ease into the new season with these beautiful new clothes. the rose top and lucia seamed ankle pant was the uniform of choice for a bit of adventuring in a nearby park with my two very talented neighbors, melissa and yvette. the top is made of a beautifully textured cotton with a deep v that can be worn front or back, and the pants are a classic cotton canvas with the perfect high rise and relaxed, wide leg. they’re such classic wardrobe staples that compliment just about any wardrobe and they come in a variety of different colors to suit any taste.

in fact, we aren’t the only ones sporting this exact combination! we teamed-up with an entire crew of talented women to share a few more variations on the theme! you can hop on over to see geneva wearing the tomato top with the deep v in front. or paige, who’s styled an all camel look for her outfit.

i certainly have plans to style these in many more ways as the weather cools off, but for now, i’m just going to stare wistfully at these dreamy photos and soak up this quickly fading summer sun.

ollie ella baskets

i often say that around our house, we never seem to have enough baskets. adam goes to a montessori school, so we try to model some of that at home, which usually requires a ridiculous amount of baskets. the nice part is that all of his toys and activities look so cute all lined up on the shelves in little baskets. it’s the perfect storage solution!

this also means that i’m always picking up more and more baskets because you never know when you’ll need more! needless to say, i got pretty excited when i learned about olli ella! in particular, their new kids baskets, which are pretty much the cutest thing ever, regardless of whether or not you do the whole montessori thing. they have a cute wheeled luggy basket that comes in a number of different colors in both kids and adult sizes. then there’s the adorable piki picnic basket, which i think we might need to use as adam’s lunch box! and their latest, the minichari bag, a little handbag that doubles as a bike basket!

not only that, but they have tons of other baskets on the site, for adults and for around the home. so you really should go check it out!

outfit: simple summer

there probably aren’t too many people who will agree with me on this one, but i think the summer might be my favorite time of year. i probably complain too much about the heat, but i live for bbqs, chips and salsa, ice cream, and beer haha. i haven’t had a summer vacation in ages, but i still feel like celebrating all of the time. lately, i’m always stopping in for milkshakes at the local burger joint. and i’ve been doing a lot of weekend taco parties with a few too many margaritas. and getting dressed is so easy. you can’t really wear too much because it’s too darn hot, which is kind of liberating. i mentioned lots of white tops and blue jeans in my post yesterday– well here it is! my summer uniform. although i have to say, these intentionally blank crystal heels in blood orange are kinda stealing the show. the perfect pop of color, as they say in the fashion industry.

outfit: lo & sons

when it comes to clothes, i feel like i pretty much know my taste. i know what i like and what i don’t like, and i tend to have a pretty intentional wardrobe with clothes that are classic, versatile, and a little bit interesting. i have a formula that works for me, and i’m pretty happy with it. but when it comes to handbags, i’ve been having the hardest time figuring out what i really want. i guess that probably seems silly, but i can never seem to commit to any particular style, so i’ve been putting off buying a new handbag for ages, and just stick with the same old, same old. so i was really thankful when lo & sons helped pull me out of my rut with this new handbag. designed with travel in mind, they created a small handbag that can be worn four different ways to suit your many different needs: as a classic crossbody, a shoulder bag, a clutch, or a belt bag.

pretty much perfect for my indecisiveness about handbags, don’t you think? i particularly like wearing is as a crossbody or belt bag, but you can see all of the different iterations in the photos. and it comes in black with gold or silver-toned hardware, grey, and sienna leather as seen in my photos.

outfit: seeing double

it’s been a little while, but my sister erica is finally making another appearance on the blog! it took a bit of coercing on my part, but i was really excited to do this shoot with her to talk about hackwith design housethey recently updated their hdh basics line to include even more of their classic styles in a larger range of sizes from xs to 4x. a common complaint that my sister has is that plus sized clothing offerings aren’t the same as the cute stuff you find in straight sizes. i know it’s not easy, but if more brands would hire multiple fit models, they could scale their sizing up or down to fit a broader range of people, so that everyone can enjoy the same garments instead of being relegated to only one section of a shop.

case in point: we were both able to get this easy wide leg jumper and be twinsies haha. no, we don’t match like this every day, but it is great that no matter who asks us where we got our jumpsuit, we know that they can go online and find it in their size. and that’s exactly how it should be!

outfit: summer nostalgia with wrangler

calivintage x wrangler

it’s been a few years now since i’ve been back in southern california where i grew up as a kid. and for the first time since i’ve gotten back, i’m finally starting to head out to explore and rediscover some of the beauty out here. it’s easy to get distracted by day-to-day life and forget that i live pretty close to all sorts of fun adventures: i’m a quick drive from the historic route 66, the iconic dinosaurs at cabazon (and hadley’s date shakes!), and a massive expanse of desert including palm springs, joshua tree, the salton sea… so when i feel the urge to get away, it’s just a quick drive down the highway for a major dose of nostalgia and summer fun.

so i headed out this weekend for a little bit of exploration in my new wrangler denim. i’ve partnered with them on the launch of their limited release collection to celebrate their 70th anniversary with styles inspired by designs from the archives. i picked up this classic pair of women’s 70th anniversary flare jeans with a retro screen print tee and cropped denim jacket and felt like i was in a vintage picture postcard stomping through the desert in my 1970s getup. but this is not a drill: these pieces are only available in very limited quantities, and they will sell out fast!

if you’re someone who loves vintage as much as i do, then you know how hard it can be to find the perfect pair of vintage jeans. i feel like i’m always searching, so i get super excited when an iconic brand like wrangler decides to give us a little peek into their archives. i often fantasize about being able to just walk through the vintage vaults of a brand like wrangler just to pick and choose all of my favorite styles from decades past. so of course, i’m pretty excited about this huge 70th anniversary celebration with more limited releases expected throughout the year.

so don’t miss out. shop the wrangler 70th anniversary release and sign-up for email alerts when more of their upcoming limited releases roll out!

outfit: cycle chic with papillionaire

calivintage + papillionaire bikes

since i usually write about fashion and home decor, you may not know that i’m also totally into bikes! i don’t ride around nearly as much as i used to, but i still have a growing collection of bikes! once upon a time, i would go on long bicycle tours, and while i hope to do that again some day when the kids are a little older, these days i’m a lot more focused on city bikes. and by city bikes, i mean casual bikes to get around town. i have a really cute mixte frame with slightly more upright geometry, but i have been itching to get back on a road bike, too! so when papillionaire asked me if i’d like to try out a bike, i went straight for their new remi. i love it because it reminds me of some of the vintage road bikes i used to ride around on back in the day, but it’s shiny and new and not quite as clunky as some of those vintage bikes can be!

the really fun part is that you can completely customize your bike! this particular model comes in this wonderful shade of aloe, or you can choose from coffee, steel blue, or carmine red. you can also choose between whitewall tires for a more vintage look, or a classic gumwall. you can even pick a black or brown leather saddle and grips. it’s all those little details that get me really excited about a new bike!

but of course, if a road bike isn’t quite your style, they have a really nice selection of frames, from a dutch style to a mixte frame to a beach cruiser, a classic hybrid, and a racer. and none of them will come anywhere near breaking the bank, so they’re definitely a brand worth checking out if you’re on the hunt for a bike to ride around in this wonderful spring weather.
