no. 6 spring 2012

you may remember a while back i wrote a post in admiration of the no. 6 blog. i find the free spirited movement of the images so fun and playful! so i was delighted to see their new spring 2012 footwear lookbook filled with even more of their lovely photos. and equally amazing shoes! i think my absolute favorite pair from the collection is the lace up corset clog in that vivid honey yellow!

dream picnic

picnic
today i thought i’d share a little dream outfit that i recently pulled together on polyvore. i’ve become a bit obsessed with browsing the site lately, looking through everyone’s collages for inspiration and saving all of my favorite pieces into a little virtual “closet” so that i can play with them later. it’s nice this way because i get to indulge my creative side, but don’t have to risk my wallet! and i can put together dreamy outfits that i might not be bold enough to wear, but that certainly get me thinking about the possibilities…

weekly roundup

time to share some of my favorite outfit inspiration from around the web. as always, you can swing by my tumblr or my pinterest to see everything that has been catching my eye lately!

arabella ramsay fall 2012

i know we are fast approaching summer, but while we’re enjoying the warming temperatures, the southern hemisphere is slipping into fall and winter weather. and this season, arabella ramsay released a beautiful collection just for the occasion. “the apple of my isle” fall 2012 may be a bit warm for us right now, but i have a few pieces on my wishlist that i think will transition pretty seamlessly from season to season. i am, of course, smitten with that mustard yellow shift dress above, but am equally excited about the eclectic mix of stripes, florals, animal prints, and crochet. i’m sharing just a few of my favorites, so you’ll have to swing over to the arabella ramsay site to see the rest!

citrus summer

i know i don’t usually wear a ton of bright colors in my typical outfits, but i have a little secret: yellow and orange are easily two of my favorite colors. and while i’m not necessarily going to get decked out in a bright lemon yellow or peachy sherbet tone any time soon, i definitely plan to sprinkle them in among my summer accessories for a little pop of color. so when nordstrom and polyvore asked me if i’d like to share my summer must-have accessories wishlist, i made a beeline for my favorite citrus hue.

see something you like? then head on over to polyvore for a chance to win a $500 gift card to nordstrom! or click here to see more summer must-haves.

wren x clare vivier

wren x clare vivier

i’ve long been a fan of both wren and clare vivier, so when i received a little peek at the new collaboration between the two, i just had to share! they designed this lovely french market-inspired tote using the ever-popular celestrial print from wren’s spring 2012 collection and vegetable-tanned leather for this classy reversible tote. bonus points for being locally made in los angeles using remnants from wren production! it’s like the grown-up version of the million and one canvas totes i have stockpiled in my apartment. in celestial print! the bag is available now at both wren and clare vivier.

charles w. cushman

it’s been a long while since i’ve shared some real vintage inspiration, so today i thought i’d share some vintage photos that recently caught my eye. i found them while editing posts for the modcloth tumblr at work; they’d been added to the queue by my coworker julie (you may know her from orchid grey)! i clicked-through and became instantly fascinated by these dreamy photos of women who i do no know, snapped by amateur photographer and indiana university alumnus charles w. cushman. apparently the university now has a collection of 14,500 of his kodachrome color slides dating from 1938 – 1969. i’d seen some photos from this collection floating around the web before, but something about these haunting images really struck a chord. i do admit that it feels a bit voyeuristic to be looking at ladies in their swimsuits, but something about the personal nature of them really feels like you could almost be there, experiencing a day at the beach in another time and place. but mostly i just wish they still made suits like that!

the tomboy style lookbook for myrtle

the tomboy style lookbook for myrtle boutique

last week, i received an email from the lovely megan mcisaac telling me all about her latest project shooting the tomboy style-inspired lookbook for echo park boutique, myrtle. and i kid you not, i literally gasped when i saw the images and professed to my coworker my newfound desire to throw out everything in my closet and to start fresh with this lookbook as my inspiration. it couldn’t have arrived in my inbox at a better time because i had just that week been building a new moodboard in my office filled with similar tomboy styles in mind.

anyway, the clothes were modeled by caitlin g. dennis and shot by megan mcisaac in frank lloyd wrights hollyhock house in barnsdall park in los angeles, california. and all of the clothes, both new and vintage, were provided by myrtle, a new boutique in echo park. now excuse me while i wistfully stare at these photos dreaming of a new wardrobe…

summer dreams

calivintage: summer dreams

it’s a bit embarrassing to admit, but i may have developed a bit of a hoarding habit in which i prepare for hot summer weather that barely even exists here in the bay area… case in point: i’ve amassed a little collection of short shorts and tiny tops in hopes that i can somehow will the weather to be warm enough to actually wear them. i have a very busy weekend ahead of me, so i won’t be taking any day trips to the beach just yet, but at least i have a few outfits planned juuuust in case.
