hello! this post actually serves two purposes:

1. i am going to be in new york for fashion week from september 6 – 15th!

2. i’m hosting a little fashion blogger picnic on saturday, september 10th in sheep meadow! well, i can’t really take the credit for it… it’s actually a collaborative effort between a handful of my favorite vintage blogging pals including rebecca, emily and ashley (who created this lovely flyer). i am so excited to be reuniting with old pals and meeting some of you for the very first time! so get dressed up in your fanciest picnic attire, bring a blanket and some treats, and let’s have a picnic! and don’t forget to rsvp!

i woke up this morning to overcast skies and chilly weather. so naturally, i decided to turn to some of the upcoming fall collections for a bit of inspiration. boutique by jaeger had one of my favorite spring collections this year, and their new fall 2011 collection is just as exciting! this season they’ve created a modern take on the classic english schoolgirl with wardrobe staples like duffle coats (which is have yet to incorporate into my own repertoire!) and a fun mix of plaids, stripes, florals, and fair isle. now i just have to decide which pieces i like the most!

i have to make a confession: i wear my leah goren cat print dress all the time. it’s the easy sort of piece that i can literally throw on after a long day at work to just wear around the house. and the type of dress that i pair with a cardigan on the weekend to run to the grocery store. and if you need evidence, here is one way i’ve worn it, and here is another. and this is the way that i wore it last weekend to scour for vintage at the alameda flea market.

street style at outside lands, days two and three

and just as quickly as it came, outside lands has drawn to a close. these are some more of my favorite street style shots from saturday and sunday at the festival. it was so crowded on the weekend days, that getting a decent shot was actually pretty challenging, but i still spotted plenty of fashionable festival-goers. just like last time, you can see many more of the bohemian styles i shot for free people on their blog: day two and day three.

i can’t express how fun of an experience it really was to watch all of the people pass by with their own unique personal style and to be able to take photos to document that moment in time. this is actually getting me really excited for new york fashion week, where i hope to snap even more street style photos!

i was especially busy this weekend shooting street style at the outside lands festival, but before all the madness began, this is one of the outfits i wore to go out for breakfast with the boy. and i’m wearing pink pants! they make me feel like beck from his album midnight vultures. an awesome album, for sure, but when you open the cd there is a glorious photo of beck in a pair of bright pink pants that made my teenage heart melt. so when j brand recently contacted me and asked if i’d like to pick a pair of jeans from their haute hues collection, you had better bet i went straight for the 811 in fuchsia!

when i first got them in the mail, i was a little uncertain if i’d be able to pull off such a bright pair of pants, but i’ve actually already worn them several times. the go to outfit usually includes a breton stripe shirt, simple pumps, and a pair of cat eye glasses. but today i thought i’d add a bit more color with this mustard cardigan, and i anchored it together with a cream shirt and simple brown accessories. definitely an eye catching color combination that’s fun to wear on a sunny afternoon.

calivintage + free people at outside lands, day one

this weekend, the outside lands festival has taken over san francisco. i’m not a huge festival-goer, but when free people asked me if i’d like to go with them to shoot street style, i jumped at the opportunity. i love to shoot street style photos and it’s such a pleasure to observe the diverse array of styles that girls are wearing, whether on the street or at an event like this. on the first day, i definitely noticed the trends for this chilly summer festival: boots are a requirement, and if you’re smart, you’ll also opt for tights and a sweater or a pair of jeans!

these were some of my favorite looks, but i seriously took so many photos that i couldn’t share them all. you should definitely check out the free people blog for more of the photos that i took (including a shot of vanessa hudgens)! and expect more to come! there are still two days left of the festival!

and look who’s back on the rooftop? i realized it has been such a long time that some of you might not even have been around in the days when all of my outfit photos were shot from my rooftop! i was feeling pretty exhausted after a long day of work, so hopping up on the roof to enjoy the view of oakland as the sun set in the sky felt like a nice little midweek treat. not only that, but i decided to get all dressed up in my chloe sevigny for opening ceremony dress! i had my eye on this baby ever since i went to the oc store in february, but at the time, they didn’t have my size! fast forward 6 months and i found it up for sale on their site for a fraction of the price! there are seriously so many good sales online right now.
