instagram obsession

instagram

when i first got my iphone a few months ago, i asked everyone i knew what they thought was the most crucial app. the resounding response? instagram! and in case you haven’t noticed, i am instagram obsessed! above is just a small selection of the many photos i’ve been taking since i started using it. it was especially awesome to be able to share photos while i was on vacation and hawaii, and i am so excited to share even more photos next month during fashion week!

you can follow me by searching the user name, “calivintage.” but no worries, if you don’t have an iphone, you can also check out all of my photos on instagrid!

lucky magazine!

calivintage: lucky magazine

today i am so happy to be sharing some exciting news: i’m a member of the new lucky magazine style collective! you may remember a couple of weeks ago, i tweeted about the news and linked to this new york times article, which outlines what we expect to be doing in the coming months. and just this past week, the september issue came out and i was lucky enough to be asked to contribute a little piece for their “from the blogs” section in the print magazine! i styled up this outfit as a preview of how i hope to be dressing this fall: in pale pastels and 1960s-inspired shapes. mostly influenced by the fall 2011 collections from philosophy, prada, and peter jensen.

anyway, i’m as happy as a clam right now and so pleased to be able to share this exciting news with you! so next time you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, pick up the september issue of lucky to catch a glimpse of me!

cool water

calivintage: aqua

this is actually one of the outfits that i wore while i was on vacation in hawaii, but i never managed to snap a picture of myself wearing it while i was there! so yesterday, when i saw the sun shining outside, i pulled on this easy linen dress and took it for another spin. it’s one of those dresses that i don’t think i would ordinarily wear– it’s decidedly ladylike and much more mature than my usual girlish garb– but after having seen the sturdy linen fabric and well-constructed lines, i decided that it was just too nice to pass up. and definitely the type of thing to bring on a tropical vacation.

i’ve actually been a bit obsessed with linen this summer. i think i’ve mentioned it before, but it has always been one of those fabrics that i sort of hated because it gets wrinkled so easily. but then i realized that part of it’s charm is that it does get wrinkly. it’s supposed to be that way! i like that i don’t have to iron it and i can sort of just let it do it’s thing. it’s got this perfectly easy quality that’s pretty much the epitome of summer casual.

lauren moffatt fall 2011

lauren moffatt fall 2011

you may remember back in february, i posted about the opportunity i had to visit the lauren moffatt studios to preview her fall collection! at the time, i could only share this sneak peek with photos from the studio, but now that it’s august and it’s officially “back to school” time, i thought i would share my favorite looks from the collection in all their glory. (many of which, might i add, are already available to purchase online!)

the fun part about this collection is that it’s inspired by laura ingalls wilder. and if you’re anything like me, then you probably read little house from cover to cover and watched the reruns of the television series on tv. so this updated take on the ’70s hit is definitely right up my alley. i’ll take one of each, please!

oshkosh b’gosh!

calivintage: oshkosh b'gosh!

yep! today i am wearing my new pair of overalls. i like to think of these as the grownup version of those classic oshkosh engineer striped overalls we all seem to have had at some point in our lives. and they were perfect weekend wear for a lazy sunday spent sleeping in, indulging in lots of delicious food, and stopping in at a couple of thrift stores.  i pretty much had to have a chill weekend after having a bit of a rough time adjusting back to regular life post-summer vacation. it’s certainly not like those oshkosh days when summer was three months long! but at least i can kinda sorta pretend with a little bit of silly nostalgia.

guest post: what i wore

calivintageillos

remember a while back when i kicked-off a series of guest posts? well, i know it’s been a while since the last one (see: rebecca), but i still have a ton of really awesome guest bloggers lined up. and today i am excited to welcome jessica of what i wore! she has been a great inspiration to me over the years, and i am honored to have her here today! if you aren’t already familiar with her, then you might not know that she recently released a book titled what i wore: four seasons, one closet, endless recipes for style. so in celebration of her new book, i thought it would be fun if she cooked up a little outfit recipe for me!

“I’m so excited to guest post for Erin today on Cali Vintage. Erin and I first met two years ago at the Weardrobe Conference in NYC and have been good friends ever since. I love Erin’s sense of style, so I opted to illustrate some pieces I can absolutely see in her closet.

1. Tortoise Spectacles – I love how Erin is always a step ahead of the curve in her choice in eyewear. These frames have such a vintage sensibility to them and I actually think you may have already seen similar glasses in Erin’s outfit posts!

2. Short Red Dress – The dressed screamed ERIN to me for a handful of reasons 1) she loves little details (the white piping on the collar and sleeves is adorable) 2) anything remotely nautical makes me think of Cali Vintage 3) The girl’s got gams!

3. Geo Necklace – I’m not sure what about this necklace caught my eye, but it’s definitely very now, which is why I think Erin would dig it!

4. Retro Two Piece Swim Suit – One of my favorite aspects of Erin’s style is that she can look very vintage, yet oh-so-now at the same time. The high rise bottoms in this set have that pin up quality (which looks great on Erin), but the top is a little more modern.

5. Chunky Bootie – Erin wears the highest heels and is always onto the next thing in footwear. After experiencing some of San Francisco’s hills last week, I have a feeling this rough traction would come in handy for her as well!

6. Red Lipstick – I wish more women would rock red lipstick as fearlessly as Erin!”

check out more of jessica’s awesome illustrations, daily outfits, and inspiration at what i wore!
