on sunday, me and the boy went for a drive up north to occidental and bodega bay. we know of a super secret and totally awesome scenic road that leads out to the ocean from occidental, and we’ve been going for little day trips up there for years. the views are epic, but on this particular day, it was insanely foggy, lending a completely different feel to one of our usual haunts. while we were playing on the rocks and snapping pictures, brendan insisted that it looked like a photo shoot for a van morrison album, hence the title of this post.

after having our fun driving along the winding roads and checking out the scenery, we stopped in at a delicious german restaurant and stuffed ourselves with decadent meat dishes and dark beers, before heading home and ending our evening at the movies. we went to see black swan. i won’t spoil it for you, but i will say that it is amazingly good, despite the fact that i have been cringing a little at the memory of certain scenes…

after recently going in for my annual eye exam, i started hunting around the web for a new pair of frames.  two years back, i went on a major hunt for a certain pair of 3.1 phillip lim glasses in black (they actually have a pair in brown available at la garconne!).  and while i usually only wear my contact lenses these days, i still feel like i can’t really get into wearing glasses again unless i’ve got more than one pair.  the only issue is that i have a pretty gnarly prescription, which means i end up paying top dollar (upwards of $400) just for the lenses.  enter warby parker: they sell the frames with the prescription (polycarbonate included) for $95 flat.  and for every pair you buy, they donate a second pair to someone in need.  win!
now i just have to figure out which pair i’m gonna order first.

yesterday, after i mentioned nicole of fashion forestry, i decided that she’s just so amazing that she deserves a post all to her own.  i haven’t done a feature on one of my favorite bloggers in a long while, but i think it’s important to write about the people who inspire me the most and to share it with you!
i have actually been fortunate enough to spend a little bit of time with nicole because she just so happens to live in san francisco.  she has an adorable apartment filled to the brim with tons of amazing vintage clothes and decorations.  you could seriously just poke around for days playing dress up and rummaging through her makeup bag.  but besides having such a unique sense of style, she is also a fashion designer and has her own etsy shop with some pretty epic pieces up for sale in her etsy shop with more to come soon!

a few new things
just popping in today to share a few recent purchases that i acquired yesterday.  after a long day at work which involved locking my keys (and purse and wallet) in the car during my lunch break, i came home to a couple of nicely wrapped packages that arrived in the mail while i was out, including this adorable fur peter pan collar with an olive green satin bow from get lucky vintage and my dream cats 2011 calendar complete with a surprise photo print.  then i went on a little shopping trip to tj maxx and scored this incredible pair of blush pink chloÁ© heels!and while you won’t be able to go out and pick up the collar or the shoes, you can still buy the dreamcats calendar from field guided.  best calendar ever.
