springtime wishes

orla kiely on calivintage

after recently mentioning that nadinoo was in the top 5 of my spring collection favorites, i realized that i hadn’t shared another of my absolute most favorite spring collections for the year: orla kiely. this isn’t really much of a surprise, since orla kiely is usually very high on my list, but i am in lurve with these latest looks. i only wish they had another cute lookbook video like they did in the fall so that i could watch all of the dresses move.

seriously, it was almost impossible for me to narrow it down to only my favorites because i want so many of these dresses and separates and bags! i’m particularly enamored with the sailboat prints, and i love the perfect shades of mustard and brown with a bit of white and navy thrown in for good measure. and of course i’m a sucker for the mint green purse with scalloped detailing. so i’m sitting here patiently waiting for the rest of the items to pop up for sale in the online shop, and anxiously counting my pennies to see if i’ll have enough to invest in a new orla kiely dress this spring!

adventures underground

calivintage

after the recent premier of a certain movie, you can’t wear a whimsical blue and white dress without conjuring up images of alice in wonderland. so today i decided to run with the theme in my most recent vintage acquisition of this pretty dress from annabelle rose on etsy. i am in love with the rick rack details and little ruffle sleeves, and besides being very alice, it kinda looks like it could fit right in with some of the pretty dresses from past vivetta collections. all i need is one of those cute totoro jackets and i’m set!

a day at the races

calivintage

on sunday, i got together with a big crew of friends for a day at the races. we all met up and rode our bikes to golden gate fields for dollar days: $1 hot dogs, $1 soda, and $1 beer. good times. also, a great excuse to wear a cute hat and to place a few small bets on horses to keep things interesting. after a while, diane of darling darling joined us in our antics and we ended the afternoon at a cute little pub with leanne of paws on my face. it is so much fun to meet up with other bloggers!

also, pictured below are some photos of a few of my friends. that goofy looking fellow with the big beard is not my boyfriend, but he is my boyfriend’s best friend in the world and he also loves to make silly faces for the camera. and he is also a musician. you can listen to some of his music here. brendan is a little camera shy, so he has yet to make a proper appearance on the blog. but he is a writer and artist, and you can visit his blog here.

anyway, it was quite a fun day altogether. what did you do over your weekend?

and in case you were wondering what i wore:

striped breton shirt, rodarte for target
high rise skinny jeans, forever 21

spring things

nadinoo on calivintage

now that we’re safely out of the madness of major fashion weeks and we’ve gotten our fill of what’s to come for fall 2010, i can finally shift focus back on some of the smaller designers who are beginning to reveal their spring 2010 offerings. and first on my list? one of my absolute favorites: nadinoo! this year, nadia has really outdone herself with this beautiful selection of dresses, blouses, and high rise shorts in perfect liberty prints and delicious colors! i have to tell you, with all of the larger designers out there that i’m really loving lately, the nadinoo spring collection is definitely in my top 5 for spring with several of her items in my wishlist. i think if i had to wear nothing but nadinoo this summer, i would be quite a happy camper!

while not all of the items pictured are available in her shop just yet, you should definitely check out fleur’s petal dress and pixie’s candy mini!

street style saturday

streetstyle on calivintage

this week, i definitely found myself attracted to the hannah macgibbon/chloe trend that has been dominating the street style sites lately. pale pastels, high-rise trousers, and clean lines. you can hardly resist the look; it’s perfectly casual, comfortable, and unfussy. to me, it offers a perfect air of coolness and sophistication, so i can definitely understand why so many girls are wearing this look!

link roundup

link roundup on calivintage
i’ve noticed that fridays aren’t exactly my best days for doing outfit posts. so today i decided to shift my usual saturday link roundup to today! behold, some of my favorite style blog posts from this week.

sally jane vintage: and i ain’t seen the sunshine since i don’t know when
to be honest, jennifer always has some of the most creative and beautiful outfit posts out there. it’s hard for me to keep her off my list of favorites each week! but i had to include this lovely shot she got in front of a train with the hem of her dress billowing in the wind. so pretty!

orchid grey: the difference between a winkle picker and a brothel creeper
julie is the master of the cool and casual outfit! this look is pure preppy perfection with the pop of turquoise on her horn-rimmed classes perfectly complimenting her blonde hair and chambray dress.

the cat’s pajamas: (belated) birthday dress(es)
i always look forward to jessica’s outfit posts because this girl has a serious collection of beautiful vintage dresses. i love this incredible 1930’s polka dot dress that she got from liebemarlene!

liebemarlene vintage: reynoldstown
speaking of rhiannon, i just love this simple and elegant laid back look. and she’s wearing those awesome sandals that were recently featured in the alexa chung for madewell presentation. she’s got me wishing we had a madewell in the bay area!

jen loves kev: teacher style file
i absolutely love jen’s crisp and clean spring look. this is perfect outfit inspiration as we head into the weekend. i love the sophistication of the trench and dark denim skinnies paired with flats and a plaid blouse. so good!

my floor is red: will never be far from here
i just recently discovered this wonderful blog and fell in love with her lacey dress paired with black tights and cross necklace. the cream color of the dress keeps this romantic gothic look in perfect tune with the spring season ahead of us!

my statement piece

nope, i’m not talking about the dress. today it is all about my brand new haircut! i am very excited to share the results of my excellent salon experience last night with shannon at revamp salon in san francisco. i am telling you, if you live in the area or are coming in on a trip, you must book an appointment. and they are not paying me to say that. i just really love the cuts that shannon gives me. and in honor of the new cut, i decided to keep it simple with the styling in my little mod dress, but it’s gonna be tons of fun styling outfits with the new ‘do. it’s amazing how a cut can completely change the way you dress, and i love having my hairs short because it gives me more room to wear high collars and puff sleeves and all those pretty little details that i love so much.

anyway, we’re cutting my hair in stages so we can have fun trying different looks. we really didn’t take off too much hair for the first stage, but it’s definitely a nice change. after this, we might try something even more vidal sassoon. shannon mentioned that he’s always wanted to do the classic five point cut. i don’t know if we’ll do that exactly, but it’s gonna be fun to try more angular looks before taking it all the way up to a pixie cut this summer. ah, getting my hair cut is so much fun.

calivintage on lemondrop blog

the folks over at the aol lemondrop blog recently contacted me and asked me about the top 10 things i can’t live without this spring. this season, i’ve been very deliberately planning out my favorite looks and trends, so i jumped at the chance to share some of my picks! i must say, there is something very pleasing about making lists, and this one is no exception. so definitely go check it out and tell me what you think about my top spring items.

in other news, i was recently interviewed by beauty and the feast and offered a few of my beauty tips and tricks and revealed that besides being a blogger, i’m also a certified pastry chef!

i was also featured on one of my favorite online vintage boutiques, bows and bandits in a little street style section. they picked one of my outfits and offered some cool vintage options for styling up something similar. it was definitely an honor to be featured on such a cool site!

i also wanted to give a little shout out to style sample magazine. i was included in their great coverage of the blogger conferences that happened during fashion week. in addition to an article on their blog, you can also find my picture on page 9 of the online mag. very cool!

and last but not least, was also interviewed by jasna over at style scoop. check it out to find out why i started blogging and to read some of my advice for aspiring bloggers.

calivintage in 7×7 magazine

today i am excited to share a little magazine feature about me and some other lovely san francisco bay area bloggers in 7×7 magazine! it’s a local san francisco lifestyle magazine, so while you wont be able to run out and pick up a copy unless you live in the bay area, they have a really great website where you can catch the feature online. just click here to find out about my favorite spring trend and a little tip on being cheap and chic. also, get a look at some of the other great bloggers featured in the article, including our great photographer for the feature, jt from our local street style site, the sf style!
