charlotte taylor spring 2012

5.Charlotte Taylor SS12

last season, i discovered charlotte taylor for the very first time. i was smitten with her stunning collection of silk prints featuring bright red ants, deep blue birds, and pale pink lobsters set against sherbet orange. so when her press release arrived in my inbox announcing the spring 2012 collection, i knew i was in for a treat. once again, she’s offered up a beautiful palette of jewel tone prints perfect for mixing and matching. i would honestly be delighted to have any of these pieces to add to my wardrobe!

the san francisco steven alan store opening!

calivintage: steven alan sf store opening

last night i attended the san francisco steven alan store opening hosted by refinery 29. i can be such a recluse when it comes to attending fashion events, but i recently decided that it’s high time for me to start checking out the local fashion scene. and really, how do you say no to an invite to the steven alan store opening? i am obsessed with his designs and want to own them all, so i don’t need half an excuse to look at pretty clothes, drink fancy cocktails, and make small talk.

i have also resolved to take more photos, and thought you might like to take a peek at a few of the things that caught my eye in the new store. it was a bit too crowded for me to shop, but i have already decided that i’m going back the first chance i get to pick up my most favorite piece from the fall 2011 collection, the striped agnes dress!

mademoiselle tara fall 2011

look-book-70

while browsing the web the other day, i happened upon a stunning image from the mademoiselle tara fall 2011 collection. i had once before run across the campaign photos (which caught my eye because they used a very pretty bike as a prop), but was embarrassed to realize that i had never even heard of tara jarmon, despite the fact that she’s been designing clothes for the past 20 years and even designed a line for target’s go international collection back in 2006. she has somehow barely missed my radar until now. so perhaps it was smart that she just debuted this second collection, mademoiselle tara, for the younger (and probably less financially endowed) set. she clearly knows me well because i would wear any of these looks in a heartbeat! i’m dying over the perfect color combination in the look above (something about lavender and rust has been calling to me lately), and i’m absolutely smitten with the darling little drop waist mustard number below. and don’t irina lazareanu’s cute poses just take the cake?

outfit: weekend wear

calivintage: weekend wear

a few weeks back, i mentioned that my fall uniform had already taken shape in the form of endless combinations of pinafores and jumpers with an assortment of different blouses. while i have been sporting that particular look quite frequently, this combination of jeans with a button up shirt, sweater, and coat, has also become an important standby in my wardrobe, especially as the weather gets chilly. i’m certainly not giving up on my habit of collecting cute little dresses, but this type of look is just so classic and easy to wear that i can already see myself coming back to it on lazy weekend days or during the week when i get a late start and don’t feel like going to the trouble of getting ‘all dolled up.’

in other news, i finally got my hairs trimmed! not sure if you noticed, but my bangs were starting to obstruct my view, so i finally got off my lazy ass and made a visit to see shannon at revamp salon in sf. he undercut the bob to add a bit of texture, which is especially nice because my hair is so pin straight that it’s usually kinda hard to get it to do anything other than lay completely flat. so yay for bed-head and lazy weekend days!

nadinoo autumn/winter 2011

Look_9_1

ever since i first discovered nadinoo a couple of years back, i have been absolutely smitten with every single piece she designs! earlier this spring, i finally picked up my first couple of nadinoo pieces in the form of a lovely custom-made frock and a pretty much perfect sailor collar dress. after wearing these all spring and summer, i didn’t think i could love two dresses any more, but low and behold, nadia has outdone herself once again with the nadinoo autumn/winter 2011 collection and it’s perfect selection of beautiful vintage-inspired silhouettes and woodland prints! i know i’ve said this before, but i really mean it when i say that i could see myself spending the entire season in this collection alone.

lawrence

IMG_3571_BC-1

i was recently browsing through photos on tumblr (as i very frequently do) when i stumbled upon these wonderful fall photos from lawrence. if you aren’t familiar with the shop, it is a beautiful online vintage boutique run by francesca of the now defunct blog, the snail and the cyclops. i always loved stopping by her little space on the web to see what lovely outfits she was wearing or what new vintage treasures she’d found, so i was obviously very sad to see her say goodbye to her blog, but very happy to see her lovely new shop! the styling in these photos (shot by amy merrick) hit just the right note and made me wish i had snagged a few of the pieces before they sold out. but there is still plenty more to see in the shop!

a calivintage closet tour with nbc bay area!

your eyes are not deceiving you! it’s yet another video! and as you can tell, i’m still warming up to the whole talking and moving on camera bit, but i’m making my most valiant effort. i think i said this after i did the dvf video, but oh my, i have a lot more respect for people who are on camera all of the time! it really is quite a skill!

anyway, enough of my early morning rambling! this video was shot by the lovely claudia escobar of the nbc bay area website, the feast! she came to my apartment to take a peek in my closet and i held her captive for two hours while i showed off my collection! and i believe this might be one of the first times that i’m sharing the inside of my home with you guys. there aren’t many panned out shots, but now you have an idea of what my closet looks like (yes, it’s an entire room). i know i’ve gotten quite a few requests over the past few years from people curious to see what it looks like, so here’s a little look at what i’ve got!

shop for a cure

calivintage: loft bcrf

it’s the last day of october, which means that breast cancer awareness month is drawing to a close, but it certainly doesn’t mean that it’s too late to support the cause! this month, loft partnered up with a group of bloggers to help raise funds for the breast cancer research foundation by developing a series of limited edition t-shirts and bracelets to symbolize inspiration, strength, and support for the cause while donating $5 of the proceeds from each sale towards breast cancer research. so naturally, when they asked me to spread the news, i jumped at the chance to model this pretty friendship bracelet in solidarity with those who have been affected by breast cancer and in hope of finding a cure. please head over to the loft facebook page to find out how you can help!
