rachel antonoff spring 2011

on saturday, i was invited to attend the rachel antonoff spring 2011 presentation! i remember last season when her fall collection came out, i was instantly captivated by the nancy drew themed presentation at the lafayette house, and wished that i had been able to attend. so i was especially happy to be able to see her latest dreamland in real life! the collection was inspired by a child’s ability to transform any space into something magical, and it was presented at a private residence in the west village complete with a sleepover party upstairs, a living room fort, and s’mores in the kitchen. besides the beautiful details like heart shaped pockets and abstract bow prints, i was absolutely in love with the collaboration between rachel antonoff and bass shoes!
another lovely highlight of the event was meeting rachel antonoff herself along with julia frakes, who styled the collection. i also brought rebecca of the clothes horse (my partner in crime) along with me, and we got a chance to stop and chat with the lovely tavi, who we had first met during new york fashion week exactly one year ago. reunion times ensued and fun was had by all!
all of these photos were taken by me.

kickstart the loved one

during my trip to new york for fashion week, i had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the beautiful hannah of hannah and landon and the loved one. if you aren’t familiar with her blog and vintage shop, i highly recommend that you click the links and take a peek! she has an incredible eye for vintage as showcased in her etsy shop and in her amazing personal style. so when i discovered that she launched a kickstarter project to gather funds for a vintage inspired lingerie collection, i knew i had to share it with you!
the way it works is that individuals can donate a set amount of money towards the loved one’s financial goals. if they reach their goal by the end of the month, then they will receive the funds and have the opportunity to launch their collection. in conversation with hannah, she mentioned that if every person who viewed her kickstarter page donated only $1 each, then they would already have enough funds to start the project. so if you want to help them reach their goals, get on over to the loved one’s kickstarter project page for more details and to make a donation!
not enough motivation? just look at this cute video. i mean really, how can you resist?

and just like that, i’m back from my short trip to new york for fashion week. this time, i kinda knew that i wouldn’t be able to find the time to blog about all of the happenings while i was there, but i’m kinda glad because that means i get to hang around the house in my pajamas for the next couple of days while i catch up on blog posts and get back to normal. so today i’m sharing with you my absolute most favorite new dress from tba! it’s much more expensive than most of the dresses i wear, but i decided to treat myself to something special, even though i wasn’t sure when i would get the opportunity to wear it. then fashion week rolled around, and i realized that it’s pretty much the perfect time and place for such a pretty piece. i felt a bit like a vintage paper doll walking around in it, but i decided that my short hair and tattoos keep the look from being too saccharine.
so this is what i wore on saturday to attend the rachel antonoff presentation (don’t worry, there will be plenty of photo coverage from the amazing show tomorrow)! from there, i went on a lovely visit to the family affairs studio to play dress up and pick up some lovely new pieces along with rebecca of the clothes horse (that’s right, for the third fashion week in a row, we were joined at the hip)! and we wrapped up our day getting cozy with a nice group of bloggers at the modcloth dress up party. it was probably my favorite day out of the whole trip and i can’t wait to share the rest of it with you.

the renegade style blogger meet-up

well folks, i’m in the big apple and i’ve begun participating in the madness that is fashion week. and while my schedule is hectic (to say the least), i’m looking forward to meeting some fellow style bloggers at the renegade meet-up!
friday at noon, sheep meadow, central park.
there will be 10 red balloons and a ton of bloggers, so you should be able to spot us.
bring your own cupcake!
more details and r.s.v.p. at the facebook event page. hope to see you there!

and away i go again!

calivintage: away i go again!
today as i write this, i am on my way to join in on the madness that is new york fashion week. this will be my third time in attendance and it promises to be the perfect way to end a lovely summer before getting back to business back at home. i’ve been having a pretty nice time enjoying the lat summer with a few short excursions such as this one. in fact, over the weekend, i went on yet another cycling/camping trip through the sacramento river delta. then i had yesterday to rest up and recharge my batteries before taking off again for new york. and so, in the middle of all the madness, i’ve been dressing pretty simply. this is the outfit that i’m wearing for my travels, and it’s a pretty basic get-up, perfect for snoozing on the plane for the next 6 hours or so.
this evening, i’ll probably be relaxing at the hotel and adjusting to the time-difference, but tomorrow i’ll be attending the ifb evolving influence conference and party. it promises to be a really great event, and i’m happy to be going for the second time in a row. if you spot me, be sure to come up and say hello! i tend to get a bit flustered and overwhelmed at large events, so i hope to see some familiar faces as well!

and the winners are…

ashley and iris!
ashley and iris will each be winning a $45 store credit to clever nettle for creating these lovely fall outfits on polyvore! the collage seen above was created by ashley and was my pick for the win. i like the way the outfit is perfectly balanced, but the mixed prints keep it from being too matchy matchy. i also love the unexpected color combination! the collage seen below was created by iris and was anja’s pick for the win. anja said of her choice, “it makes me think of these funny old romantic beverly clearly novels i used to read when i was 12 or so, they were written in the late 50’s and it seemed like they were always about a highschool girl who is just starting to do grown up stuff, dinner dates and wearing something fancy while not really knowing what to do, haha. the combination of the boyfriend-style cardigan and those chanel flats did it for me!”

congratulations to ashley and iris! and no worries if you didn’t win this time, there will be plenty more opportunities to win great prizes thanks to the sponsors of calivintage. what’s more, anja is hosting a similar contest of her own over at the clever nettle blog. so check it out, create a few more polyvore collages, and enter for a chance to win a $1000 gift card!
and don’t forget that clever nettle is also offering you a 15% discount on your order through september 7. just enter the code “calivintage” in the note to seller and you’ll be refunded through paypal.

last days of the bike tour

calivintage: end of the bike tour
as i mentioned, i had just a few last pictures from the end of the bike tour. unfortunately, we have less epic photos from the last two days because we remembered that we brought a flip cam to take videos, so the still photography took a back seat to our amateur videography. i guess that means you can expect to see a little wrap up video once i actually upload them all and take the time to edit them!
so here are just a few shots from the last two days of the ride. on day 7, we rode from kirk creek to san simeon state beach. and on day 8, we rode from san simeon to our final destination in san luis obispo. from there, we hopped on a bus and a train back to the bay area and said goodbye to the last few days of summer. it was a really wonderful trip touring the california coastline from half moon bay to san luis obispo. i have another roughly 235 miles under my belt, and tons of new memories to cherish forever.

i’m baaaack!

calivintage: brown bike
oh hi guys! today is my first “real” outfit post in almost two weeks and i’m happy to be back in full swing! i actually still have two more days of coverage from the bike tour to share with you, but i figured i should probably break up the monotony with some good ol’ outfit posts and giveaways and other fun fashioney stuff as per usual. so this is my outfit from yesterday when brendan and i took a casual bike ride to berkeley to do some birthday shopping. ok, it was his birthday, but i figured i could join in on the fun, too. so we rode over and stopped at a few shops where i totally scored a bunch of cute new clothes including this rad vintage felt hat. though i’ll be honest when i say that i actually only wore it when i was walking around and posing for these pictures, because it would fly right off my head if i tried to keep it on while riding downhill.
and yeah, i’m still riding around town on a bike now that i’m back. you’d think i’d want a break, but quite the opposite. my legs are feeling strong and the summer has finally arrived in northern california, so i’m trying to soak up the last little bits of vacation time before it’s back to school and back to the grindstone.
