outfit: hazy days

calivintage: reservoir

had another relaxed weekend spent balancing house chores with mini excursions. spent saturday tending to the apartment and trying to fancy things up a bit. we’ve lived in our little spot in oakland for almost 4 years now, which is pretty hard to imagine. when we first moved in, we didn’t do much in the way of decorating because we didn’t want to get attached to a place that might just turn out to be temporary. i guess it’s not quite such a temporary space any more, but we still struggle to really embrace it as our own, probably because it’s a rental. but recently we’ve felt the desire to see what we could make out of this space, so we’ve been tidying and rearranging and doing our best to decorate. my biggest project of the day was getting refinishing an old wood table in our living room by hand. i sweated it out, but my reward for the end of the day was a trip into the city for the refinery29 sf one year anniversary party held in the hipstamatic headquarters, which left me with some pretty serious office envy.

and on sunday, i cleaned my closet/office (yes, one room in my apartment is basically dedicated to my blog, yikes!) and can finally see the floor again under all of those piles of shoes and clothes. we still wanted to get a little bit of time outdoors, so we drove out east to walnut creek where it was actually sunny, and then made our way to the lafayette reservoir just in time to snap a few photos before watching the sun set behind the hills.

frances baker fall 2012

_MG_1865

after yesterday’s super summery post, i thought i’d switch gears just a little to share the frances baker fall 2012 collection. if you hadn’t already seen these photos floating around the web, then you’re in for a treat! this collection is handmade in the southern hemisphere where the temperatures are a little bit less than warm this time of year. though honestly, these looks would be perfect for the san francisco summer… i just love the preppy, schoolgirl vibes in these simple yet elegant pieces, and can already see them fitting perfectly into my transitional wardrobe later this year!

outfit: backyard

calivintage: backyard

this weekend kept me pretty close to home cleaning the apartment and doing loads and loads of laundry that have been piling up for who knows how long! so instead of heading out of town to go swimming in lakes or camping in the woods, i kept my adventures close to home. on sunday, brendan and i drove out to “house sit” for his parents with a car full of laundry and not much else to do. so we laid out in the back yard on a quilt in the grass between cycles, and i played dress up in my new lauren moffatt dress. nothing like laundry day as an excuse to put on something fancy in order to clean every last machine washable item in your wardrobe.

laying out on a blanket in their very well-manicured yard with the setting sun filtering in through the trees felt like such a treat. it made me start to feel a little itch to someday have my own yard, or for that matter, even my own house! apartment living is pretty swell, but sometimes i dream about how nice it would be to have a little place with a yard and a dog and a washing machine and all of those silly conveniences.

calivintage + fossil san francisco city tour!

calivintage + fossil sf city guide

today i am very excited to share my latest collaboration with fossil.com! they contacted me a couple of months ago asking if i’d be interested in sharing a few of my favorite sf spots, so i happily made a day of it and took a quick trip to the mission district in san francisco to snap a few photos of my favorite shops. i sent over the pictures with some quotes and recommendations, and was absolutely blown away with the finished result! they created the most adorable animated interactive map of san francisco in the pretties shades of mustard and pink! it’s so cute that i want to print it out and hang it on my wall.

i’ve attached a couple of screen shots to share, but you’ll have to click here to play with the map and discover some of my favorite sf spots!

calivintage + audrey grace boutique lookbook

calivintage + audrey grace lookbook

i’m sure if you were online yesterday, you noticed a flood of beautiful photography centered around the launch of audrey grace boutique! and today i’d like to share a peek at my own little project shooting a lookbook for the boutique which debuted yesterday on racked.com! they have the exclusive first look, so you’ll have to head on over to the article to see the rest of the photos, and then mosey on over to audrey grace boutique for plenty of sweet summer dresses.

i normally just shoot my usual outfit photos on weekend days, so it was fun to try something new and concept out an entire shoot. since it was a special occasion, i asked my incredibly talented friend diane vo to take the photos. it was fun to collaborate on the project, and it turned out to not only be a successful shoot, but a very pleasant daylong adventure in the berkeley hills. we shot in the uc berkeley botanical gardens, the regional parks botanic garden in tilden, and on the side of the road near a golf course in the hills, haha. i also brought along my pal jon brown who may or may not have shot some experimental film for a video that is possibly in the works! i also have a bunch more “outtakes” that i promise to share soon!

outfit: endless summer

calivintage: endless summer

ok, i suppose it isn’t officially summer for a few more days, but the last few weeks have certainly felt like it to me! the weather is warm, all of the school kids are out for the summer and roaming the streets, and my favorite swimming spots are filled with families soaking up the sun. i’ve been making my best effort to take it easy on the weekends, avoiding work like the plague and spending as many hours as possible lounging around outdoors with some sort of summery cocktail in hand. most weekends have been pretty casual when it comes to outfits, but yesterday i decided to step up my summer game just a little bit in my new carven pinafore. i’d been drooling over this acid yellow dress for over a year, hoping that by some strange series of events, it would somehow be mine. dreaming about owning this little gem actually led me to make a concerted effort to lay off the spending and to save up a little for more special pieces. having said that, i still waited for it to go on super sale at net-a-porter before taking the plunge. me and this dress, we’re gonna have some fun times this summer, haha.

no. 6 spring 2012

you may remember a while back i wrote a post in admiration of the no. 6 blog. i find the free spirited movement of the images so fun and playful! so i was delighted to see their new spring 2012 footwear lookbook filled with even more of their lovely photos. and equally amazing shoes! i think my absolute favorite pair from the collection is the lace up corset clog in that vivid honey yellow!

dream picnic

picnic
today i thought i’d share a little dream outfit that i recently pulled together on polyvore. i’ve become a bit obsessed with browsing the site lately, looking through everyone’s collages for inspiration and saving all of my favorite pieces into a little virtual “closet” so that i can play with them later. it’s nice this way because i get to indulge my creative side, but don’t have to risk my wallet! and i can put together dreamy outfits that i might not be bold enough to wear, but that certainly get me thinking about the possibilities…
