outfit: garmentory giveaway!

calivintage + garmentory

as i’m sure you’ve noticed with a few of my latest posts, i’ve recently become obsessed with garmentory. if you aren’t familiar with the site, it’s a marketplace for emerging and contemporary independent boutiques and designers. they carry almost all of my favorite brands. case in point: you can shop practically everything i’m wearing in this outfit directly from the site. i like it because it’s basically a one-stop shop for pretty much anything i’m looking for, and i’m able to save things into a favorites list so i can easily find them later. i love shopping independent boutiques, but it’s hard to keep track of them all! garmentory makes it easy for me to shop ethical and to shop small.

esby apparel spring 2017

calivintage - esby apparel spring 2017

it’s officially spring, and i’m already falling behind on sharing all of my favorite spring collections! as you know, i’ve been a really big fan of esby apparel for several seasons running, and their latest spring 2017 collection is high on my list of favorites. this austin-based brand was founded in 2014 by stephanie beard, and has continued to grow, with a selection of garments made in the usa using quality fabrics and thoughtful design. i’ve picked up two of their best-selling jumpsuits and they are easily some of my favorite pieces. everything is designed with ease and comfort in mind, without ever being boring. they experiment with shapes like cropped tops and wide legs, long dusters and versatile dresses. everything can be washed and worn from season to season, so you never feel like you’ve invested in something that will go out of style. you can shop their online store, or you can use my link below:

noble carriage ig takeover + a giveaway!

calivintage + noble carriage

i wanted to stop in to share that i took over the noble carriage instagram feed yesterday! if you aren’t familiar with the shop, it is a woman-owned small business based in san diego with a beautiful selection of organic and sustainably-made baby clothes and toys. they stock some of my favorites, including winter water factory, misha & puff, and hazel village.

they asked me if i would be interested in sharing a few photos and talking more about how we do our bet to raise happy, healthy kids. we aren’t perfect by any means, but i did have a lot of fun talking about how we’ve adopted some of the montessori method for our home. other than that, it’s just a lot of patience and plenty of free play around here!

as part of the takeover, we’re also hosting a giveaway, so follow the links below to enter:

outfit: found company giveaway!

calivintage + found company

we’re in the middle of a heat wave in the winter, and while i know i should concerned because global warming is real, it’s hard not to enjoy such pleasant weather after so many cold, rainy days this season! and spring really is right around the corner. when i first picked up this jumpsuit, it was still too cold to wear it. so of course i was so happy when i could finally throw it on with a pair of heels and run outside to soak up some some. it is so perfectly summery, and so easy to wear. definitely part of the “mom uniform” in terms of comfort and functionality. and the washed denim fabric is insanely soft. softer than i ever would have guessed just looking at the product photos.

oh, and for those of you who are afraid to wear white, there is no secret behind keeping it clean. i just think of my white clothes as a painters uniform or a utility coverall– i find a nice sturdy fabric and just wear it and let it get dirty and stained. to me, it adds character. much like a leather bag or a pair of worn-in sneakers– or a marble countertop.

but enough of my rambling and on to the good stuff: i’m hosting a giveaway with my friends at found company! you can enter here for a chance to win a $250 store credit towards anything in the shop! it’s a small, woman-run business stocking some of my favorite women’s wear and kids clothing brands, including vintage and men’s clothes, too!

lauren winter spring 2017

calivintage - lauren winter spring 2017

spring is in the air and i’m looking at the latest lauren winter collection for inspiration. this season, she’s introduced the most beautiful shades of rose and peach, in addition to her classic japanese indigo double gauze cotton and neutral shades of hemp and linen. i love the philosophy behind the brand– that clothes should be comfortable while still being interesting. and of course, sustainability is a big part of their ethos. in addition to sourcing fair-trade textiles, they also use sustainable fibers like hemp, organic cotton, and linen to offset their carbon footprint. even the packaging is 100% recycled.

but all of that aside, the collection alone is absolutely beautiful. you know how much i love a good jumpsuit, so it’s probably no surprise that i’m dying over the rose-colored cove jumpsuit, inspired by 1930s beach attire complete with a rope tie waist. it is definitely very close to the top of my spring wishlist. or if you want something a bit less flashy, the cove top is just lovely.

you can shop lauren winter at garmentory. if you follow my link, you’ll get $20 off your first order!

the plunge with third love

calivintage - third love perfect contour plunge bra

if you’ve followed my blog for a long time, then one thing you may have noticed about me is that i hardly ever wear something low cut. it’s funny, because i think a lot of people assume it has something to do with modesty. but if i may be frank, it’s because i have really big boobs. my size fluctuates a bit, but i’m currently fitting into a 32F. and i know this probably sounds like sacrilege, but to be completely honest, i do not love it. and i am forever envious of my smaller busted friends who talk about the liberation of going braless– and wearing all sorts of revealing clothes while doing so. unfortunately for me, that is literally not possible– especially because i’m still breastfeeding, but also because it is not a comfortable (or socially acceptable) option for those of us who are naturally very well-endowed.

i tend to wear full-coverage bras with lots of support to hold me in place, to push everything upwards and inwards– and out of sight. it’s never particularly bothered me because in many ways, it’s just how i feel more comfortable. but lately, i’ve been itching for a change. maybe it’s because i’ve gotten older. or maybe it’s because i’ve had two kids and i just don’t feel the same way about my body as i used to. maybe it’s the patriarchy getting me down, but what they heck? why not show a little more skin every once in a while?

so this season, i challenged myself to try some new clothes. i picked out a few new things for spring, including this reversible tank top with a deep v that can be worn in front or in back. i thought i would just wear the v in the back, but then i discovered the new thirdlove perfect contour plunge bra.  i often choose clothes with more coverage to avoid showing any lace or straps, but if you’re wearing the right bra, who’s to say it’s such a bad thing to get a little peek of an elegant detail? the perfect contour plunge has an elegant sheer mesh overlay along the front, and most importantly, it is made with super-soft memory foam cups that provides a very natural lift that is universally flattering, even for someone with an F cup like me. it is very soft and comfortable, while still actually providing support. and dare i say, i might be liking it even better than my usual full coverage bras. it’s given me the freedom to change things up with my wardrobe, and it’s made me realize that there are other ways to be comfortable in a bra that don’t involve always being covered up!

shop third love and find the perfect bra for your body. use the fit finder and try before you buy!

winter water factory, part two

calivintage + winter water factory

as fun as it was to wear matching outfits with edith last week, this is the real fun right here: matching siblings! since edie was born, i haven’t been able to resist getting them at least one or two matching outfits every season. i know i won’t be able to do it forever, so i’m trying to soak it up now.

adam is wearing the winter water factory t-shirt and micaela greg pants. edith is wearing the summer romper with a petite soul x winter water factory bonnet.

misha & puff spring 2017

MP-SS17_lookbook-17

forever a fan of misha & puff, i had to share the photos of their new spring 2017 collection. i have loved their vintage-inspired knits since before i even thought i wanted to have kids. and now i have two of my own that i get dress up, and i always pick at least one thing from every new collection. after they grow out of their clothes, i donate most of them, but i always keep our misha & puff pieces in a little box as keepsakes because they are so special to us.

outfit: blluemade

calivintage + blluemade

i’m sure by now you know all about my dedication to linen. over the past several years, it has become a prominent textile in my wardrobe for a number of reasons. for starters, it’s a much more sustainable material than cotton because it requires far less pesticides to be grown. it also gets softer with each wash, and is incredible comfortable and breathable. it’s typically considered a summer material, but it comes in all different weights, making it a practical choice for all seasons, especially if you live in california.

which brings me to blluemade. just launched earlier in 2016, the brand sources high-quality linen from belgium, and designs and manufactures all of their garments here in the united states. the husband and wife team behind the brand both come from backgrounds in art history and philosophy, and they’ve joined forces to create such an elegant and timeless collection. they are both huge fans of indigo, and are inspired by vintage workwear, which are two things i absolutely love. so of course you know i’m a huge fan. i’m wearing their modern smock shirt and wrap skirt, which look great together, but are also really fun to mix and match with your existing wardrobe.

the best part is that everything on the site is currently 30% off with code ‘FEB30’ from now until the end of february! after that, these pieces won’t be back, so hop to it while the deal is still on!

adam turns three

calivintage - adam turns three

well, it happened. adam turned three last month! it is so hard to believe he’s such a big boy now. and as you can see, he is 100% obsessed with trucks. when i asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said “only trucks, please.” more specifically, he’s really into monster jam, but thankfully they don’t appear to have a ton of licenced products for parties, so i was able to get away with going more generic and found a ton of really cute paper decorations from meri meri. they make the best party supplies! adam was especially pleased with the big rig cupcake stand because it has functioning wheels, so he got to play with it after we were all done.

for the cake, i just went with a boxed mix and pre-made frosting. which is especially funny because i’ve actually been to culinary school and am a certified pastry chef. oh well! adam very specifically asked for a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles, which is awesome because that’s the kind of cake i’ve made for him since his first birthday. i think i see a tradition emerging…

anyway, decorations aside, it was a really wonderful day! the clouds and rain parted for one day only, so we were able to celebrate outside in warm, sunny weather before retreating indoors for the rest of the week. and it was the first time we got to enjoy our newly constructed pergola, which is a total game-changer. now we can have all sorts of parties out there! now if only i could find some furnishings for it…
